Today was a big day for Onion....he had his dental. This poor little guy had not received any vet care prior to arriving into rescue, which was very evident when looking at his teeth. His mouth was a mess and he needed to have all of his teeth removed plus nasal fistulas on both sides repaired. His mouth must have been causing him quite a bit of pain, but he's going to be feeling much better soon!

Onion / M / 9Y / 5lbs / Chihuahua / Fostered in Owen Sound

When Onion came into our care, he was very scared and would try to bite when we touched him. But he has come so far since arriving into our rescue and is so brave now. He is extremely affectionate and always wants to be with you. As soon as you sit down, he wants to be up in your lap. He also loves a cozy bed and blanket to snuggle up in. He enjoys meal time and will eat all of the wet food while picking out the kibble and leaving most of it behind. He has the cutest bark and sounds exactly like a seal! The funniest thing about him is that his lip always gets stuck on his tooth and he looks like he is smiling!

Onion is continuing to work on his house training and is doing well but still has accidents inside (he does not like this cold weather). He is crate trained and sleeps through tonight. He hasn't had much experience walking on leash yet. He does have some separation anxiety and will cry when left alone. He does eventually settle after about 15 minutes. He is low/medium energy.

Onion is scared when meeting new people and needs slow introductions. Once he knows you though, he will love you with his whole heart. He is good with other dogs but does not like to share his bed or his person's lap so would do better with another dog who was more independent. He is good with cats. Since he is still quite afraid and does not like to be startled, he would do best with children 14+. Onion is looking for a family who will be very patient with him as he settles in and will help him continue to be brave. He would love someone who is home often with him and someone who wants to cuddle lots. We would prefer a family who has experience with nervous /shy dogs. He is having his dental on February 19th and then he will be ready to go home after he's healed.

Bear / M / 13Y / 10lbs / Toy poodle mix / Fostered in Meaford

Bear loves being beside his person and will tuck himself in to them as close as he can get. He also loves his snacks! He will be your little shadow and will follow you around the house everywhere. He is extremely sweet, laid back, calm, and quiet. He is a very easy dog to have around and it's impossible not to immediately fall in love with him. He does really well in the car and did great when he was groomed.

Bear is house trained with frequent trips outside (every 3 hours). He may mark in the house though when he first moves in, especially if there are other dogs in the home but he tolerates having a belly band on well. He does not like being in a crate but is trusted free roaming when left alone. He has excellent leash manners and is currently getting five 10 minute walks a day. He's low energy but is active for a 13-year-old dog. He has been left alone for up to 5 hours and did well. He may whine for a few minutes at first, but quickly settles and falls asleep. He does have a low-grade heart murmur but does not currently require any medication. He did have a dental when he came into our care and had his remaining three teeth removed and a nasal fistula repaired. He is also receiving apoquel twice a day for allergies (approx $80/month).

Bear is great when meeting new people and loves to get lots of attention. He is good with other dogs, cats, and respectful children 6+. He would love a family who is home often to give him lots of cuddles and affection. He loves to sleep in bed cuddled up beside his person. His adoption fee is $500.

Our sweet, still-single bachelor, Houdini, is feeling the love today! Heā€™s so grateful for all his secret admirers who sent him hearts topped with cheese. And being the charming boy he is, he couldnā€™t choose just oneā€”so heā€™s decided that every admirer deserves a kiss (which, of course, means heā€™ll happily nibble the cheese off your heart).

Oreo / M / 7Y / 18lbs / Shih Tzu / Fostered in Toronto

Oreo is a cuddle bug who adores getting snuggles, belly rubs and being held like a baby. He wants to be best friends with everyone he meets and if you try to stop petting him, he will grab your arm with his paws and pull you back for more. His foster says "Oreo is the most friendly, happy dog I've met. He thinks everything he does is fun, and thinks everyone he meets is awesome; he's a true optimist". He is described as cuddly, friendly, laid back, outgoing and curious. He is always looking for a comfy place to lie down, and will crawl into your laundry hamper to nap if you're not watching!

Oreo is house trained and walks well on leash. He will go in his crate for naps but doesn't like when he's left alone in the crate with the door closed. He is trusted free roaming when left alone and has done well.
He is also great in the car. He knows his name and "shake a paw". He isn't overly food motivated. He is working on separation anxiety and will whine but does eventually settle and call asleep. He has not shown any guarding behaviour. He is low/medium energy and is currently getting 2 15-20 minute walks a day and has done up to 60 minutes but was tired out after that.

Oreo loves meeting new people! He is great with other dogs and would be fine with kids 5+. He hasn't been cat tested but would likely be fine. He does have chronic dry eyes and receives Cyclosporin drops twice a day which costs around $100 for a 2 month supply. He also needs to have his eyes checked every 3-6 months as he is prone to corneal ulcers, due to the dry eye. He doesn't love getting the drops but he is a good boy for them. If he sees you coming with them, he will close his eyes and pretend to be asleep, hoping to trick you. His ideal home is with someone who's home often. He'd be a great work from home buddy, he's happy to nap away beside you while you work. Someone who is looking for companionship and cuddles.

Yesterday we welcomed Bennie into our care. This sweet boy came to us when his owner passed away.

He is 9yrs old and very cuddly! He's still getting used to his foster home as he's had a lot of change in the past few weeks, but we are so excited to help him find his forever family. After he settles in and completes his vetting, he'll be ready for adoption!

Honey / F / 11Y / 12lbs / Chihuahua mix / Fostered in Owen Sound

Honey is as sweet as her name! Her favourite things include napping, her bed, and her human foster sibling. She also enjoys a nice walk and a snack. She is described as calm, friendly, quiet, and cuddly. Her foster says her favourite thing about Honey is how much is always wants to snuggle. She does great in the car and loves adventures.

Honey is doing well with her house training but will still have the occasional accident if not taken out frequently (she is currently getting 5 potty breaks a day). She doesn't love her crate but will go in and eventually settle. She walks very well on leash and currently gets a 20 minute walk plus p*e breaks each day. She is a velcro dog and always wants to be with her person. She does have some separation anxiety, but as mentioned, does settle eventually. She does have cataracts but is still able to see and get around! She has a very low grade heart murmur and will likely need a dental in the next 1-2 years.

Honey can be shy when meeting some people but does warm up. She is more hesitant with men. She is good with other dogs, cats and respectful children. She is adaptable but her biggest request is for a family who is home often to give her lots of cuddles and to continue working on her house training. Her adoption fee is $500.

Update on the chihuahuas from the hoarding case! This group is a very brave group of little dogs. With patience and gentle voices, they went from growling and snapping at us to giving kisses and allowing gentle pets. You can tell they want to so badly be loved. We are so excited to continue to see their progress as they settle in. Thank you to everyone who has donated to their care and thank you to New Collar Collective for welcoming two of them into their care!

Houdini loves to be close to his people and his doggy foster brother. When excited he can be a little chatterbox, but who doesn't love a dog who can hold up a conversation? His fosters say "He is a fantastic dog and he deserves so much love! Any adopter would fall in love in the first week". He loves playing with his toys and will take all of his toys out of the toy basket to play with. He is always down for a snuggle session with his fosters. Houdini is fully house trained. He is working on crate training, like any lovable pup he prefers to sleep close to his people (or in their bed) BUT if you choose to crate him he may cry at first but he will settle in about 5-10 minutes. He's currently improving with his leash manners. Due to the excitement of seeing another dog he does pull on the leash to say hi, but this is improving with ongoing practice and treats! He is medium energy with a high energy mode selection depending on what you have planned on the agenda. He's always up for a game of fetch or a hike but he's just as happy with a Netflix and cuddle session on the couch or a peaceful snooze while you work. He is currently getting 1 or 2 walks a day (weather dependent) that range between 30-45 minutes as well as about 30 minutes of backyard time to get his zoomies in. As 2024 comes to a close and we get ready to welcome 2025, we wanted to take a look back at the year! We welcomed 90 dogs, 1 cat and a sheep into our rescue! We held a few fundraisers and attended a few events and met a lot of great people! We also welcomed a number of new volunteers and fosters to the rescue. We want to say thank you to all of our volunteers, fosters, adopters, donors, partner vet clinics, partner rescues and followers. All of this wouldn't be possible without you, we very much appreciate your support!! We wish everyone a happy and healthy 2025!! Please be kind to all animals!
