We at Doghouse Grooming Salon are asking if anyone has any old or unwanted towels they would like to pass onto us.
We are also looking for gently used dog toys to help fill up our dog treasure chest. These toys help calm dogs during their grooms and we love watching doggies choose their own treasure before leaving. It is a wonderful postive way to say "you did great!"

🦠There have been 2 cases of Canine Leptospirosis in the Halifax area this week.🦠
When we start hearing this kind of news, it makes it extra important to talk about it.
"Lepto" is a bacterial disease that can be contracted by both canines and humans through the consumption of infected urine. Sounds gross right? Why would you or your dog ever ingest wildlife's urine? It's easier then you think... Wildlife carrying the bacteria such as deer, raccoons, or rodents urinating into stagnant water is the main culprit. This means your dog can come into contact with Lepto simply by drinking from a puddle or even by eating wet grass that was recently urinated on by infected wildlife. Yuck!
Lepto can survive for weeks to months in the environment. Heavy rainfall can exacerbate its spread and since 2023 has been an extremely wet year with tons of heavy rainfall, that makes it an ideal year for Lepto - as it thrives in thrives in warm, wet environments.
So what does Lepto do to your dog and how can you tell? Lepto primarily affects the liver and kidneys, which can ultimately result in life-threatening conditions.
Common clinical signs (which may vary in severity) are as follows:
🦠 Fever
🦠 Decreased appetite
🦠 Vomiting
🦠 Diarrhea
🦠 Increased thirst and urination
🦠 Lethargy or weakness
🦠 Stiffness and soreness
🦠 Dehydration
🦠 Yellowing of the eyes or gums
🦠 Small bleeding under the skin
🦠 Redness in the eyes
🦠 Rapid or difficulty breathing
If you notice any of these signs in your dog contact your vet team immediately to schedule an appointment. Whether it's Lepto or not, your dog needs to be assessed.

This season also bring on the colds, flu and similiar illnesses. Considering this and the staff shortage we are currently experiencing ...Doghouse Grooming brings special attention to the following:
* to avoid Disappointment and waiting lists, please pre book your favorite spot/day/time.
* please be considerate for our staff if experiencing illness. Perhaps someone else can drop off or pick up. Or a mask can be worn, Or we can reschedule. We will try very hard to accommodate. It is very hard to work this physical job with so much fur, when we are sick and congested.
* please note that grooming appointments may be rescheduled if we do not have enough staff to operate. This is out of our control. Nobody intends on cancelling. We will try very hard to find a spot for you. Even if it means working overtime.
* we will not be able to "squeeze in" any additional dogs to our day. Please schedule ahead.
* please call for immediate attention. Emails, text etc. do not get seen right away.
*please do expect an answer after hours. We are resting.
* please consider pre booking all year round.

Beverly Grant is a professionally trained, certified dog groomer who received her Dog Grooming Certificate with honors, and has over 6 years experience as a Veterinarian Technician. She has also managed and operated two boarding and grooming kennels, as well as worked alongside dog breeders, dog groomers and dog trainers in her career. She and her staff are also certified in Canine CPR/ First Aid. Your dog is in great hands.
Beverly and her family relocated from Kitchener/ Waterloo to Owen Sound in 2014. They are pleased and excited to be part of the Grey-Bruce Community. Beverly has been surrounded by animals of all varieties her whole life. She owns many pets of all kinds. She has an enormous respect and deep love for all animals, especially dogs, and truly knows how to make a connection with them. It has also been said by family and friends that the animals in the wild outdoors seem to gravitate and find her for interaction and care. She has fostered many of Mother Nature’s wonders.
Beverly welcomes you to her salon and should your dog need a relaxing and stress free spa day or you should need a short stay for your best friend, she is there to help. Beverly is looking forward to meeting and building relationships with new people and new furry friends!
