We are a non-profit shelter dedicated to helping dogs and cats find forever homes in Grey and Bruce.
The shelter was founded in 1989 and relies heavily on community support through volunteering, fund-raising, donations and opening homes to animals in need.
These kittens, Iona and Flynn came to us at approximately 6 weeks old but now are over 4 months, so we figured it was time to update their pictures. Meet Jada. She's a 10 month old Boxer X. She's a very active pup, ready for action. Because she jumps a lot and is still very much a puppy, she's not recommended for households with small children. The Lion's Head yard sale was a huge success this past weekend. Here's an update from Teresa, the organizer of the great event!...
"Well, I really don’t have the words. After two very hot days and lots of fun with our family; we really did “pull it off” for you folks, if I may say so myself. Lol We were able to raise $2000 just for you (GBAS) and the same amount for the Bruno Project Canada !!! We are so grateful for the support of our local community. A special thanks to our friends and family for helping us out with all the amazing donations.
A reporter from Country 93 radio stopped by. She had seen an ad for our sale on FB and came up to check us out. She gave me her email address and asked some questions that I’ll reply to so you may hear “about it” on the radio.
The pics of the kids, show what a “family affair” it was. They were right into it ! We had free lemonade and free balloon animals so it was a “nice” touch on a hot day. We all banded together. I really want people to know that we actually made $4000 which is awesome.
You can see what a great day we had…..super hot but sunny and clear ! Congrats to the Bruce Peninsula for sure !!!!".....

Our boy Mehiighan (aka Cookie) was badly in need of a grooming. The hot weather had loosened a lot of fur! Last night was the night. He wasn't thrilled but took it like a gentleman, singing his mournful husky song a good deal of the time. Thank you Natasha for a great job!
Our girl Tika had a nice outing, walking from the library to the Mill Dam this weekend. It's so great when our pups can get out for a little adventure! We see a totally different side of them when they are away from the shelter.

Tonight we said good bye to a real sweetheart. Dakota came to us almost 5 months ago, emaciated and with a huge tumour on his back leg. It turned out that the tumour was a particularly aggressive cancer and too far advanced for surgery or other treatments to help. As a result we placed him in foster care for whatever time he had left. He did great, far better than expected! He gained weight in spite of being a very picky eater, no dog food was good enough for Dakota. But he was happy and loved.. Sadly, recently, his bad days have been outnumbering the good days so we made the difficult decision to say goodbye and tonight, surrounded by his favourite toys and foster parents, and after a last meal which included an ice cream cone, a cheeseburger and lots of dog treats, he passed away peacefully. We'll remember you fondly Dakota! ❤ RIP sweet boy!

Adoption News...another foster fail! Little Rosie has won the hearts of her foster family and now has a permanent home! She's so happy! Good luck little one.🥰
We have such a great bunch of dogs at the moment. They get along beautifully and have settled into shelter life so well. We've been marvelling at how quiet they are when we arrive at the shelter...and all happily greeting the volunteers. They love to get out to play separately or together. It's a real treat having such a lovable bunch! Here are some of the more playful. Louie (brown and white) only just arrived and joined in with the others very happily. Henry, the boxer, is a little camera shy but makes an appearance at the end. He really enjoys playing with the puppies, Willow and Winston.🥰
Whiskey and pups, Willow and Winston, were having a fun time outside today...loving the milder weather. This big field is such a great spot for the dogs to play!
Our little mother, Whiskey, had a fun outing this week at Harrison Park. All the dogs get daily AM and PM walks and playtime at the shelter. Sometimes, as an extra treat, one of our volunteers will take one out for a little adventure. It's so great for them! You can see Whiskey thinks this is a great idea! She's such a nice girl! Thanks, on behalf of our furry friends, to staff and volunteers who go over and above to keep life interesting while the dogs and cats are in our care!! Whiskey is 2 years old and a real love. Good Morning Sandy and Beau
Our boy Dirk was pretty overwhelmed by the shelter environment and all the noise and commotion when he arrived, but he has gradually warmed to our volunteers. He is a really sweet guy once he gets comfortable. Initially, he was too nervous to even put a leash on, now look at him! Patience of volunteers pays off! Notice that he's completely un-phased by all the other dogs, just enjoying his run! This guy will make a great addition to the right family! Dirk is 4 years old, up to date on shots, neutered and ready to find a home. He's good with dogs, cats and older kids.

Bentley had a field trip and he loved it. He had a lovely walk in the park during which he invited himself to join a family gathering and fit right in. Our volunteers are so great to give the dogs this kind of exposure and fun!
Who can resist such a lovable guy?!🥰 Everyone else was in a crazy mood at the shelter the other night, but not Bear...lovable as ever. This handsome boy is a 1 year old Lab-Bernese X. He is a bit territorial about food and toys around other dogs but otherwise enjoys being out on walks with his furry friends. He still has some youthful exuberance so will need an active home and a fenced yard. Bear is awaiting a neuter appointment and then will be ready to go. PUPPY VISITS NOW CLOSED!! We have puppies! 7 weeks old, sweet tempered, lively -- Shepherd/Lab++ X They will likely be medium-sized to large when grown.❤❤
We (and the lucky cats in the long cat room) are beyond excited to have begun the installation of our cat walls. Commencement of this project was made possible by a generous donation in memory of Levi, beloved pet of one of our supporters. The construction was done by the Wasaga Beach Woodworkers Club Inc. and they've done a wonderful job! You'll see our sweet Precious has taken a liking to the "Levi" platform that gives access to the catio.
