🐕 🐈 🌎 April 4th is World Stray Animals Day 🌎 🐈 🐕

It's a day dedicated to increasing awareness about stray animals worldwide and the problems they face.

A “stray” cat is defined as a cat who has been abandoned or lost, as opposed to a cat born outside who is referred to as a “feral” cat because that cat has had very limited interactions with humans.

❗️Stray & feral community cats are in desperate circumstances through no fault of their own.

Stray cats rely on caring and compassionate individuals. Please help stray (and feral) cats get spayed/neutered and vaccinated to help these cats live better lives and to help decrease the unowned outdoor cat population.

How can you help stray cats? -
1. Make a donation to your favorite rescue.
2. Adopt from a local shelter or rescue.
3. Support & donate to your local trap/neuter/return (TNR) organizations to help with spay/neuter services.
4. Learn how to TNR so you can help/volunteer your time getting community cats fixed and vaccinated in your neighborhood.
5. Raise awareness and spread the word about the needs of unowned cats.

If you're in Charlotte, NC, please reach out to learn about resources available for stray and feral cats in Mecklenburg County, NC.

Two rescues in Northwestern Ontario will distribute 45,000 kilograms of food to communities across the north

The best way to help any stray, feral, or community cat is to get it spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and ear-tipped. TNR is the answer!

We have to stop the endless number of kittens being born outside. There just aren't enough homes for them all.

The wee ones are important too - the best things come in small packages 💖

We are noticing posts on social media confusing the OSPCA with PAWS. The Ontario SPCA is an animal welfare charity; we do not investigate animal cruelty concerns. Animal welfare concerns are investigated the Provincial Animal Welfare Services (PAWS), a government agency.

If you have a concern for the welfare of an animal, please contact the Government of Ontario’s Provincial Animal Welfare Services team at 1-833-9ANIMAL or your local police services.

When there is an animal in need of urgent care, we want that animal can get help as quickly as possible.

So, so true!!

DID YOU KNOW?
Our moods and feelings reflect greatly in our relationship with our birds. If we work to understand and accept that, then it will go a long way to helping to create a loving lifetime bond for all. 🥰

Heartfelt thanks to the OSPCA for the wonderful donation of cat food......this will help keep our colonies fed during the coming winter months! Also, special thanks to Kelly for all the shopping she did for us in her free time...the kittens are happy with you and so are we!

Not all parrots can talk. Not all parrots want to cuddle. Not all parrots can do tricks. Please do not get a parrot if any of these are your reasons for wanting a parrot.

Before you get a parrot, please know that ALL parrots require you to make lifestyle changes such as no longer using nonstick teflon cookware, or using your self-cleaning feature on your oven, or turning on celing fans, or even using your favorite scents/cleaners/plugins/candles/perfumes. Do you want to know what else all parrots do? All parrots bite. All parrots scream. All parrots make a mess. All parrots molt. All parrots p**p constantly. All parrots go through a hormonal period. All parrots require daily interaction. All parrots require space & toys. All parrots require the ability & opportunity to fly. All parrots require an experienced avian veterinarian and annual wellness exams. All parrots require a varied nutritional diet. All parrots require for you to never stop reading and learning.

No matter how much we think we know, we will never know enough! Education is the key in helping you make your relationship work with an inherently wild animal. 🐦💗🐦

🌹🌹🌹All the little cat spirits were crossing the rainbow bridge when one of them looked back and saw some cats' souls laying on the other side of the bridge, not moving.

“Who are they?” he asked the cat next to him.

“Oh, don’t you know they are the souls who had no owner in life and knew no love like we did."

“So what are they laying there for?” he asked “Why don’t they cross over like us?”

“They can’t.” replied his new friend “Only pets with owners can cross."

Just then all the souls on the other side of the bridge sat up and looked down the road.

"What’s happening?" asked the little cat. “Watch!” replied his friend.

Whereupon a woman was seen walking towards the bridge. She looked to her left and then to her right then opened her arms wide and all the patiently waiting souls got up and went to her.

She knelt and touched each and every spirit in turn.

They then all proceeded to cross the bridge together.

“Who is that?” he asked his friend.

“That is someone special.” replied his friend “She is a rescuer." 🐈🐈‍⬛🐈

An open letter,

You are breaking the strongest people I've ever met.
You, with your broken fence whose dogs get out and you don't go to the shelter to pick them up.
You, who breed without any knowledge of the how's or why's of caring for a pregnant female, a litter, an intact male- and just because they are cute or for the money.
You, with that new baby so no more room for your "best friend."
You, who needs to go on vacation but doesn't want to pay for boarding.
You, who didn't vaccinate so rescuers pour their heart, soul, and wallet into watching YOUR cat/dog die in their arms or on the vet table.
You, who didn't spay your cat/dog so she's pregnant and you can't deal with it so you drop her at the shelter or call animal control.
You, who stands in line for two and half hours to surrender your cat/dog to an overfull shelter where owner surrenders are the first to be euthanized.
You, who dumps defenseless kittens/puppies in a field where coyotes are known to roam.
You, who throws kittens/puppies out your window as you drive down the freeway.
You, who buys from a puppy-mill or pet store when moms, puppies, juveniles, and adults were euthanized this morning at just one shelter among hundreds.
You, who just don't care about the living, breathing, feeling animals who depend on us to be their voice.

The strongest people I know are breaking, because of you.

Volunteers, Animal Control Officers, Veterinarians, Technicians, Animal Welfare Agencies, Rescues.

And I don't know what to tell them.
There is nothing to say.
*WE* are those people breaking.

When an outdoor cat chooses you and stays, it's because they trust you and feel safe. They know a person's character better than anyone else. You should wear that badge with honor. 🥰
