Swimming NL is very pleased to announce 4 new Provincial Records!
Congratulations to:
GILLIAN SMITH (St. John’s Legends) broke the 14-year-old 100 Backstroke (11-12 female - SC) record, previously set by Catherine Silotch in 2011, with a time of 1:09.40 at the 2025 Penguin Plunge Invitational.
AND the Memorial University Sea~Hawks men were on fire with three new relay records at the Kemp-Fry Invitational:
CHRIS WEEKS, DANIEL PEARCE, LIAM TWEEDIE, and LIAM MACARTHUR broke the 400 Free Relay (Open – SC) record with a time of 3:28.86……..AND……..the 400 Medley Relay (Open-SC) record with a time of 3:47.47.
LIAM MACARTHUR, JAKE LECOURE, CHRIS WEEKS, and STEPHEN MILLEY broke the 200 Medley Relay (Open – SC) record with a time of 1:45.85.

KATERYNA KORETSKA (St. John’s Legends) for breaking the 29-year-old 100 free (10 & under female – SC) record, previously set by Eileen Robinson (PSC) way back in 1995, with a time of 1:10.76!!!

GILLIAN SMITH (St. John’s Legends) for breaking the 100 free (11-12 female – SC) record, previously set by Claire Chin (SJL in 2023), with a time of 1:00.62!!!
AND
the 50 backstroke (11-12 female -SC) record, previously set 15 years ago by Catherine Silotch (SJL in 2009), with a time of 31.28!!!

Swimming NL/Memorial University Bursary 2024-25
The Swimming NL Memorial University bursary, valued at $1000.00 annually, is available to a student continuing beyond their first year of studies at Memorial University of Newfoundland.
The bursary recipient will be a swimmer in good standing with Swimming Newfoundland and Labrador and will be a returning member to the Memorial University of Newfoundland Seahawks Varsity Swim Team.
Awarding of this bursary will be based on swimming performance at the varsity level. It will be awarded by the Senate Committee on Undergraduate Scholarships and Financial Aid to a student in good academic standing at the university.
DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS: March 6, 2025.

PROVINCIAL TEAM NEWS & Happy Tibbs Eve!
Swimming Newfoundland and Labrador (SNL) is pleased to announce the roster for the Canada Games Core Team. These 34 Paralympic and Olympic Program swimmers, representing four Swimming NL clubs, will serve as the pool of athletes from which the Canada Games team will be selected.
Final selection for the Canada Games Team will be made considering only those on the Core Team and based on long course results from the East Coast Championships (March 27 -30, 2025) and the Team NL Provincial Travel Team Meet (May 15 -18, 2025) at the Dr. Ralph Hicken Invitational.
The Core Team will compete at the Dr. Ralph Hicken Invitational as part of the full Swimming NL Provincial Team. The senior Provincial Team members will be selected and announced at a later date.

2025 Canada Games - Major Technical Officials Application Available
2025 Canada Games - Major Technical Officials Application Available:
Swimming Canada (SNC) will be accepting nominations for Major Technical Officials (MTOs) for the 2025 Canada Summer Games swimming and open water events, occurring August 9-14 and August 15-16 respectively in St. John's Newfoundland & Labrador.
Officials must be fully certified at level 3 or higher. Provinces are strongly encouraged to nominate upcoming officials currently at level 3 or 4 who have shown commitment & ability in supporting championship competitions at the provincial and national level, in addition to those experienced level 5's who may deserve recognition for years of service. The SNC selection committee will be looking for at least 1 level 3/4 from each province/territory to attend the Games.
If you are interested in being selected as an MTO please complete and submit this application form by December 31, 2024 (5pm).
