Something I don’t see people doing enough with their dogs- ✨nothing✨
I get it, our lives are busy and our dogs have physical needs to be met! A walk will do the trick, right? But does your dog also struggle to “turn off”? Do they whine and pace while indoors? Or can’t settle in new places? Odds are- your dog could use a whole lot more of doing nothing!
Doing nothing, doesn’t have to be as boring as it sounds. Bring a blanket to the park, a drink and snacks, and just watch! Doing more of this will also serve as opportunities to work on socialization with your puppy or new rescue, or even counter conditioning through thresholds for your reactive dog! Every dog can benefit from doing nothing.
Looking for opportunities to do this as a group? DM me for information on our Coexist Club!🫶🏼
When I tell people that majority of problems with their dog can be solved by using a leash🤭
🔆 Dog not responding to their recall… use a leash!
🔆 Dog jumping on guests in the home… use a leash!
🔆 Dog nipping or mouthing you… use a leash!
🔆 Dog not holding a command… use a leash!
🔆 Dog is counter surfing… use a leash!
The answer isn’t always some extensive training plan, it can sometimes be as simple as just using your leash!
What other ways can you think of where the answer might just be… using your leash?

Tips for managing your long line! ✨
Long line leashes are the safest and most effective way for your dog to emulate off leash freedom while respecting by-laws and training for the real deal. Simultaneously, they can also be the most annoying to manage! 🤣
Whether you have intentions of off leash training, or just long line adventures- here’s our tips ft: adoptable Kiya @tangosleadcaninerescue
1️⃣ Don’t hold at the handle! Instead, hold mid length and let the rest drag behind you. When you need to give more leash, release and rewrap the leash through your fist and thumb (as shown) to lock it!
2️⃣ Reel it in!🎣 Rather than fumbling over collecting the leash, throw it behind you as you recall your dog in. Less mess= less stress.
3️⃣ Keep some tension on the line to avoid the line getting caught around legs, trees, polls etc! Preferably less than displayed in this video- unfortunately I’m not an all star camera gal (yet)! 🤣
4️⃣ Know when to drop it. For those training towards the real deal- don’t take off the leash too soon. Instead, when your dogs recall is solid, drop the long line to drag and step on it if needed as back up!
5️⃣ Invest in a reputable retractable leash! Though controversial, a retractable Flexi Leash might just be your new favourite tool when used properly and responsibly!👀
