Kitten season is in full force, but beware of hitchhikers if you are adopting kittens from barns or strays from outdoors. 🐈🐈🐈 (**kittens adopted from Humane Societies have been treated prior to adoption)
Feline lice are species specific, and easy to treat topically with products from the vet, but can become very irritating to your new addition if left untreated.
Not unlike head lice in children, feline lice prefer to spend their life on a single host, but will migrate to other cats in the household if they are snuggled together looking all cute! 😉
If you have recently adopted a stray kitten or barn kitten, have a look through their fur for small white flecks that are attached to the hair shaft. These eggs (or empty egg shells) are easier to spot than the live lice, especially on dark fur.
And… if you find some extra friends, don’t panic! Give the clinic a call and we can check your kitty out and get rid of the lice, and also treat for fleas and intestinal parasites at the same time!
