Reminder of beach closures for the Brant 👌

With Brant geese arriving in the MABR, we'd like to share a friendly reminder to respect the dog restrictions on our beaches.

Our festival celebrates the return of Brant geese as they use local beaches as a stop-over to rest and feed during their long journey from Mexico to Alaska and beyond. Close proximity to humans and dogs can disrupt the Brant geese, causing them to take flight and interrupt their feeding and resting.

For this reason, restrictions are in place to minimize disturbances to the Brant geese. Please note that beaches within the Parksville Qualicum Beach Wildlife Management Area (PQBWMA) will be temporarily closed to dogs. Rathtrevor Beach will be closed to dogs from February 15 – April 30. Parksville Bay Beach and Qualicum Beach will be closed to dogs from March 1 – April 30.
