We still have one riding spot available and a few non riding spots.

If you’re interested in expanding your understanding of riding and how your biomechanics impact horses movement I strongly encourage you to find a way to this clinic.

Horse Riding Clinic May 25 & 26

Sue Falkner-March is a Level IV Centered Riding Instructor. She studied under Sally Swift and has worked with students that are western competitive riders, gaited horse enthusiasts, world class endurance riders, dressage and hunter jumper riders, as well as working ranchers and trainers.

• feel
• balance

Location: CS Western Stables, Pemberton, BC

Hey everyone, I hope you’re all getting to enjoy your horses,
farms and the best parts of this beautiful spring weather. With baby animals, field work and fresh horses, spring has a tendency to be hectic and hopeful!

On April 6th the PVTA is organizing a trail expo and trail maintenance day.

As the Equestrian Rep for the PVTA I’ll be at the pancake breakfast to answer questions and get feedback.

There is renewed interest in developing an official equestrian association and club. I believe the time has come to restart this in the horse community so that we can continue to ensure horses are valued on trails and in town, as well as continue to develop events, trails and services we’d like to see as a group.

I propose, during the pancake breakfast, we get together and chat at 9:30 am. We can discuss the horse group and answer questions then.

Possible events being proposed.

In conjunction with the PVTA Trail cleanup and working days April 6th - with 2 more to come. (Feed back on location/s and times of the year is needed)

Poker Ride April 28

Centered riding clinic May 25-26

Obstacle challenge 3rd weekend in April/May/June/Sept/August

Mountain Horse show and sale

Gymkhana/barrel race/skijoring

Practical and ethical cattle handling/working horse clinic

Backcountry packing clinic, combined with a beginner level local overnight trip

Equine and human first-aid courses

Bear aware and trail safety courses

put on by the Canadian Association was a pile of fun and we had a great time with friends and amigos old and new. We played some great songs and had fantastic visits with some of my favourite people. Being able to ride with Basil, John and Craig in my go-arounds and as part of their turn-back crews was an honour. The level of horsemanship and commitment to traditional development by every rider was inspiring.

As always instruction by Miles and having the perspective of all the judges made for a powerful weekend.

Like most horse shows…I’d hoped it could go better then it transpired. Good homework for sure and some soul searchin on what the whole deal means to me. While I was riding as a turn back rider, she got pushed on by a rank steer and I struggled to get her mind back and while she had some decent circles in the ranch pattern she was still holding on to her memories of rank cows.

What is incredible to me, in-retrospect was that a few days later, I was at the family farm and was able to use her in actual ranch work. My mare was so awesome and I was so proud of her, the work we put in and lessons we learned at the show helped us when it actually mattered. Like she new that the horse show was just for my ego and she wasn’t into facilitating that bu****it. It always amazes me how much they understand and the complexities of their minds.

She was reading the room and telling me she wanted to get home and like any tipsy cowboy (drunky on ego) I was to excited with the party to listen.
