Welcome to the Zen Dogs Walking Squad, Zeus! 🫶

Zeus and his mom recently completed our “Management Strategies for Reactive and Excited Dogs” program. He just completed his first week of walks with me; we are currently keeping things nice and easy as we are getting to know each other. I am currently walking him in low-distraction environments and mostly just letting him sniff whatever he wants, rewarding check ins, with a few mini-training sessions scattered throughout the walk to practice the skills he learnt with his mom.

I look forward to seeing his progress over the next few months as we work on growing his confidence and he work on creating a positive association with things he’s unsure about! 🐾

Ten of my favourite snaps from the past week 📸

I’ll try to make this a weekly Sunday things as it allows me to clean my photo folder of the 1937850 dog pics that are not as great 😂🐾

Which one if your favourite? 💭

Hi I’m Roxanne 👋 There’s few new faces here AND I’ve never done a proper introduction of myself so here’s 8 facts about me:

1. I am originally from Quebec City and I moved to beautiful British Columbia in 2017. I lived in Whistler for 5 years, Pemberton for 1 and now Mount Currie ⛰️

2. I started agility with my first dog Sam, when I was 12 years old. I was absolutely obsessed with the sport until I moved to BC; so much that I missed my high school prom to go to and agility trial and I still don’t regret it to this day 😂

3. I have over 7 years of working professionally with dogs under my belt! My first job with dogs was as an animal care giver at a dog rescue in Alberta in 2013. I then travelled for a few years and tried different opportunities in the service industry. In 2018, I started working as a dog walker for another dog walking company in Whistler, leading group walks of up to 12 dogs at a time. In 2020, I went back to work at the rescue as an assistant manager for a few months as I needed a change of scenery. This is when I adopted my dog, Feisty. In 2021, Zen Dogs Whistler was born! ✨

4. I currently live with 2 dogs: Feisty (Slide 2) and Hank (Slide 3). They both have reactive tendencies and have taught me so much about fear in dogs 🐶

5. I love to mountain bike and snowboard, especially with my dogs whenever it’s possible! 🚵🏼‍♀️🏂

6. I was diagnosed with ADHD and social anxiety about 1.5 year ago. It’s never really been a problem for me until I became self-employed. My journey has been bit of a roller coaster since then, but I’m slowly learning to develop strategies to help me thrive with it 💡

7. I am TERRIFIED of birds because a seagull stole a sandwich out of my hand as I was taking a bite when I was 10 years old 🦅❌ I adopted some chickens this year to help me get over that fear. I am not scared of my chickens anymore, but unfortunately it did not transpose to other birds lol

8. I am a freshman student at the renowned . I was on a hiatus for way too long as life got a bit rough for me in 2020 and then I was too busy with Zen Dogs to think about studying. But I’m excited to be back in student mode now! 🤓

The end 📕

DID YOU KNOW that studies show that when dogs look at us, their brains release oxytocin, the “love hormone,” which is the same chemical that humans release when they bond with someone. This suggests that dogs feel deep affection and attachment toward their guardians, similar to how we feel about them.

Feisty has the most intense look since she was just a puppy, which can feel intimidating if you don’t know her, but the way she looks right through my soul is one of my favourite thing about her 👀💛

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL DOG DAY 🐶🩵 Give your dog extra treats, let them sniff a bit longer, throw that ball one more time, snuggle up on the couch with them, teach them a new trick. Today, but also, every single day. They deserve it ✨

Meet one of our Founder Zen Dogs: Nilla! ✨🐾

A few facts about Nilla:
🤍 She LOVES balls, all food, a good ear scratch, learning new tricks and zooming around with her friends
❌ She is HATES loud noises, especially avalanche bombs and meeting new dogs on leash
🐕 I have been walking/sitting her for over 5 years now (where did the time go?!?)

Samoyed is one of those breed that I absolutely love, but could never have myself due to their overwhelming (to me) grooming requirements. Thanks to my job, I still get to enjoy the breed on a regular basis!
