๐Ÿพ๐Ÿง  Let's Talk About Mental Health in the Veterinary Industry ๐Ÿง ๐Ÿพ

As we kick off Mental Health Week, we want to shine a light on an often overlooked aspect of our profession: mental health. Working in the veterinary industry can be incredibly rewarding, but it also comes with its unique challenges and stresses. From caring for beloved pets to navigating difficult decisions, our mental well-being is crucial for providing the best care possible.

This Mental Health Week, let's commit to open conversations, support, and self-care. Whether it's taking a moment to breathe between appointments, reaching out to a colleague for a chat, or seeking professional help when needed, let's prioritize our mental health.

Together, we can break the stigma surrounding mental health in the veterinary industry and create a healthier, more supportive environment for everyone. Remember, you are not alone. We're in this together. ๐ŸŒŸ

Spring has sprung, and that means you may be seeing these little red bite marks appearing on your pet (especially your dog).

This is a type of fly bite, and your pet usually gets it from laying in the grass. These flies usually only stick around the first few weeks of Spring and then go away. ๐Ÿชฐ

While they do look terrible they usually do not bother your pet. They typically heal on their own without treatment. However, if your pet seems bothered by these bites or your concerned please do not hesitate to reach out to us!

โš ๏ธ Trigger Warning: Discussion of Ear Mites; This might make your skin crawl! โš ๏ธ

Ear mites are tiny parasites that can cause discomfort and irritation for our furry companions. While the thought of these pesky pests might be unsettling, it's crucial to recognize the signs and take action to help your pet.

๐Ÿพ **Signs of Ear Mites:** Keep an eye out for symptoms such as:

- Excessive scratching or pawing at the ears
- Redness or inflammation in the ear canal
- Dark, crumbly discharge resembling coffee grounds
- Strong odor emanating from the ears

If you notice any of these signs in your pet, it's essential to seek veterinary care promptly. Ear mites can lead to secondary infections if left untreated, causing further discomfort for your pet.

๐Ÿšจ Trigger Warning: Graphic Content ๐Ÿšจ

Attention Pet Parents! We were shocked (and a bit grossed out) when another veterinary hospital shared this eye-opening image on social media. ๐Ÿ˜ฑ Did you know that female ticks can carry a staggering number of eggs inside them?

This serves as a reminder to stay vigilant against ticks and the diseases they can spread to our beloved furry friends. Regular tick checks and preventive measures are crucial for keeping your pets safe and healthy!

๐Ÿพ Remember, prevention is key! Keep your pets protected from ticks and other parasites. Consult with your veterinarian about the best prevention options for your furry family members.

04/08/2024

๐Ÿพ Attention pet owners! With warmer weather upon us, it's essential to keep an eye out for ticks on your furry friends. These pesky critters can carry diseases that can harm your pet's health. Here's a quick guide on how and where to check for ticks:

1. **Inspect thoroughly**: After spending time outdoors, especially in grassy or wooded areas, give your pet a thorough once-over. Pay close attention to areas such as the ears, neck, underarms, between toes, and around the tail.

2. **Use your hands**: Run your fingers through your pet's fur, feeling for any unusual bumps or lumps. Ticks can be as small as a pinhead, so be sure to check carefully.

3. **Visual examination**: Ticks can vary in size and color, ranging from tiny black dots to larger, engorged insects. Be sure to examine your pet's coat closely for any signs of ticks.

4. **Tick removal**: If you do find a tick, it's essential to remove it promptly and properly. Use fine-tipped tweezers to grasp the tick as close to your pet's skin as possible and pull straight out with steady pressure. Avoid squeezing the tick, as this can cause it to release more saliva and potentially transmit diseases.

5. **Preventive measures**: Consider using tick preventatives recommended by your veterinarian to protect your pet from tick bites and the diseases they may carry.

Remember, early detection and prevention are key to keeping your pet safe from tick-borne illnesses. Stay vigilant and keep those furry friends happy and healthy this spring! ๐ŸŒท๐Ÿถ๐ŸŒฑ

๐Ÿพ๐ŸŒฟ Attention Pet Parents! ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿพ

As the weather warms up, so does the activity of fleas and ticks! It's essential to stay vigilant and proactive in protecting our furry friends from these pesky pests. ๐Ÿšซ๐ŸฆŸ Remember, prevention is key to keeping our pets happy and healthy all year round.

Here's a friendly reminder and some helpful tips:

๐Ÿ” **Check for Ticks:** Fleas and ticks love to hide in warm, moist areas on your pet's body. Be sure to thoroughly check:

- Between toes and paw pads
- Around the ears
- Under the collar
- Around the tail base
- Underneath your pet's armpits and groin area

๐Ÿ›‘ **Don't Forget Fleas:** Fleas can quickly infest your pet and your home. Keep an eye out for excessive scratching, redness, or tiny black specks (flea dirt) on your pet's fur.

๐Ÿ’ฌ **Unsure About Parasite Control?** Our knowledgeable staff is here to help! If you're unsure about which parasite control product would be best for your pet, don't hesitate to reach out. We'll provide personalized recommendations to keep your furry family members protected.

Remember, prevention is the best medicine when it comes to fleas and ticks. Let's work together to keep our pets safe and itch-free this season! ๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ

Ever wonder why we highly recommend doing an ear swab on your pet when they come in with an ear concern?

This is what we see under the microscope! This patient came in with an ear concern and when we look at the slide under the microscope we can see that this pet has a pretty bad bacterial infection. The little dots are tiny bacteria we can only see under the microscope called cocci. However, in this case there were three different kinds of cocci which is a very rare case to see! Fortunately, these bacteria can easily be treated with proper medication.

Without doing these important ear swabs we would not know what the best course of medication would be for your furry friend.
