I can't say what or when yet but I can say we officially own her and that a good start was made with the boys getting her cleaned out. Still a lot of work ahead of the Pawz-Ability family to make this dream a reality ๐Ÿ˜‰ but you can only move forward one step at a time.

I love love love this....having an invisible illness and disabilities myself I struggle with training my own dog but I find ways and on occasion seek professional help but I wouldn't have it any other way because the end result is more rewarding and empowering. Don't let anything stop you or get in your way ๐Ÿ˜

Great PSA. I apologize for the language but I couldn't have said it better if I tried. I have a fear reactive dog myself that is just starting to make progress and "they're friendly" is my living nightmare. If you have a reactive super-pup share a pic in the comments. We can give a wave quietly on leash from a distance in support of you and your pups hard work if we see you out and about in the beautiful Okanagan ๐Ÿ˜.

We promised we would introduce our British Authors litter - well here they are!

From left to right: Hardy, Brontรซ, Orwell, Christie and Woolf. They will be 3 weeks old tomorrow and are beginning to explore more and more each day.

We wish Milne, their very doting mom, good luck trying to herd them back where she wants them ๐Ÿ˜‚

โ€ผ๏ธ WARNING โ›”๏ธ

GET RID OF THOSE AIR FRESHENERS!

NO, most plug ins, gels, and sprays are NOT SAFE for your dog and can be causing them harm ๐Ÿ•โ€ผ๏ธ

Why?!

Most forms of air fresheners, even those marketed as โ€œnaturalโ€, can be very toxic to dogs, and to us!

According to Dr. Mahaney, one of the main offenders in the ingredient list for most air fresheners are Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC). VOCs are organic chemicals that have a high v***r pressure at room temperature due to a low boiling point. This causes these compounds to easily ev***rate from a solid or liquid form into the air. This transformation is called volatility. In other words, volatility is just what air fresheners are meant to do: break down from one form and dissipate into the air, thereby changing its scent.

These substances can cause a laundry list of maladies, like asthma and cancer, and can affect the blood, brain, heart, liver, kidneys, skin, and the respiratory and nervous systems of both people and their pets.

So, how do you know if the products you use around your home are relatively safe?

Check with the aspca poison control center - https://www.aspca.org/pet-care/animal-poison-control

A pet exposed to toxic chemicals might cough, sneeze, produce a nasal discharge, or suffer from vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, or lack of appetite.

If in doubt - see your Vet, and switch to an air purifier hepa system or do your research on dog safe cleaning formulas you can make at home.

โ€œThe International Dog Day celebrates all dogs, mixed breed and pure. The day is also a reminder to the public to recognise the number of dogs that need to be rescued each year and acknowledge the contribution of family dogs and dogs that work selflessly each day to save lives, keep us safe and bring comfort.โ€

Happy International Dog Day!!
(Not like us dog people donโ€™t think itโ€™s dog day everyday๐Ÿ˜‰)

LEASH GREETING 101

It's a regular day, you are out for a stroll and another dog comes along with their owners...

"Is he friendly?"
"Can he say hi?"

And then it usually goes like this:

Two dogs are pulling towards each other, sniffing each other right in the face

Tail up! Maybe some hackles up!

And then one snarls or snaps

"Oh, he's never done this"!

Alright, let's stop right HERE!

How are proper dog greetings supposed to look like?

In general, I do not recommend on leash greetings. Why?

1. Because for many dogs it is an invitation to pull you over to any given dog you walk by and then we have totally different issues than dealing with proper dog greetings. Then we have a dog that likes to pull you around on walks.

2. Many dogs feel not super comfortable greeting others on leash because they feel trapped on a leash which easily leads to one being too agitated which then leads to one dog lashing out.

But when on leash greetings can't be avoided, there is a right and wrong way to doing it.

We have to understand that in the dog world, it is unnatural approach each other face to face (unfortunately many dogs think this is an okay behavior because it's something their owners have encouraged OR because they are just rude jerks...sorry!)

Approaching face to face is threatening, usually more and invitation to fight.

So most times, dogs approach each other like this, you see high tails (which translates to agitation) possible hackles up (same thing).

So having that said, face to face greetings are a No No.

Let dogs approach and sniff each other from the side and then...

I go with the 3 second rule... 1 2 3 okay let's go.

That gives the dogs enough time to sniff each other but usually not enough time to engage in an altercation.

So everybody stays safe and happy.

Rule of thumb! try to avoid on leash greetings, but if you must.... approach from the side and 1 2 3 bye!
