If you saw our creepy crawly post yesterday and guessed Otodectes cynotis also known as ear mites you are correct! These mites can live in ears of cats and dogs. They often have an appearance of coffee grinds in the ear and cause intense itch! Once diagnosed by doing ear cytology they are easily treated with common parasite prevention and ear medications!

Teamwork makes dream work! 💫 Did you know we work closely with multiple traveling veterinarians to help us provide specialty services right here at home! This is Mr. Kitty with RVT Stacey having an ultrasound by Dr. Size at MapleTree Diagnostics. The team at MapleTree frequently visit us to provide ultrasound and internal medicine consults without long travel for you and your pet. They help us diagnose and formulate treatment plans for your pets when they aren’t feeling well. We are SO thankful for them and their services.

Do you recognize this face but wondering where she has been? Carrie used to be at our front desk but now she is our surgical assistant! Carrie is behind the scenes when your pet gets checked in for a procedure like surgery or x-rays. Her job is to make sure your pets comfort is #1. She hugs them when they get pokes, makes the most comfy beds, feeds snacks and takes them for bathroom breaks. She also is the queen of organization and sterilization. Carrie is responsible for making sure all our surgical instruments are clean and sterilized properly to ensure your pet is safe. Carrie is the oil to our well oiled machine. It may seem like she is 'behind the scenes' but she is such a key part of your pet staying with us. Help us give Carrie some love for all she does!

Peterborough Police K9 Gryphon came in to see Dr. Sarah recently for a sore leg. Gryphon uses his strength to the maximum by constant running and jumping while working. Although he is in great physical shape it is never to early to start prevention. We know our pets age at a much faster rate then we do, this puts them at risk for things like joint and muscle pain much earlier than we are. We started Gryphon on a supplement to help maintain his joints before his senior years. We are happy to report after some rest he is feeling much better and back to work! Do you think your pet could benefit from a joint pain prevention plan? Give us a call! 🚓🐾👩‍⚕️

What are dental x-rays called? ...Tooth pics 📸🤣 lol get it? Ok, ok we will be serious. Look at this tooth! 🦷 This is a canine tooth from a dog. Who would have thought they were that big! Did you know that 2/3rds of our pet's teeth are below the gum line where we can't see? Of course, our pets cannot tell us when they have a tooth ache. Most pets do not even stop eating! This makes our job very important; however, we cannot tell much about a tooth just by looking at it until disease is advanced. This is why we recommend regular COHATS (comprehensive oral health assessment and treatment). During a COHAT your pet has a fully trained RVT (registered veterinary technician) x-raying, probing, cleaning and polishing all their teeth. The veterinarian then will asses the tooth x-rays and do an oral health exam. With every regular COHAT the chance of your pet needing dental surgery and losing teeth is lowered. Wondering if your pet needs a COHAT? Give us a call! This is also a service that is included in our adult wellness plans! That was a lot of tooth information in one go.. if you've made it here you've really got a 'tooth filling' of info....eh? eh? ..ok we will stop.

We loved hanging out with these 2 girls😻 Nyxi and Tova were in for their annual wellness and rabies vaccines. They are both indoor cats so why vaccinate for rabies? It is SO common to have bats 🦇 come in our homes and our indoor feline hunters are always the first to find them. On August 27th Peterborough Public Health put out a statement that there have been 2 confirmed cases of rabies in the local bat population‼️ Rabies is zoonotic disease (meaning it can transfer from animal to human) and is always fatal. This is why vaccination for our cats and dogs is so important regardless if they never go outside. If you are not sure of your pet’s rabies vaccination status please give us a call! 📞

Look at this sporty girl named Bella! Bella had a spot she was bugging with and in order for it to heal she was given Dr. orders not to lick it. Bella and her parents hate the dreaded cone (us too!) so they came up with this! It does the trick and is super stylish as well!! We absolutely love it!! 🐶🐾❤️

Our Story

After opening in 2009 we made it our goal to stop the stigma of pets hating the veterinarian. Sherbrooke Heights Animal Hospital strives to make every visit a happy one. You pets are not just our patients, they become part of our family.
