Guess the Foreign Body post from yesterday, if you didn’t see it go check it out! There were some great guesses.

Sweet Gigi, she ended up eating a large chunk of Corncob 🌽 which caused an obstruction in her small intestines. This girl did great through surgery and is home recovering with her family for the holidays.

Happy Saturday from our new friend Finley! Even though Finley is a young dog, he’s been through a lot medically. Thankfully, his people have always been committed to his well-being and have him insured with Trupanion. This means when something comes up, they can rest assured knowing that they can provide gold standard care for Finley! ❤️ We were happy to have this lovely little guy stay with us, but we’re so glad he got to home to his worried parents.

It’s a good thing Samson is soooo adorable … 🥰 Cause he’s a bad bad boy! Sammy is recovering from his FOURTH bowel obstruction surgery at KVEC. 😩 Another few days in hospital and he’ll be ready to head home. 🏠❤️

Happy Friday from little W***y! He and RVT Drew had many snuggles last night when he came in for a swollen muzzle. After a few medications, and listening to evening hospital rounds in the laps of all the staff members, W***y was good as new. ❤️

UPDATE - Shiloh’s owners have come for him 🥳

Anybody in the Peterborough area missing this little guy? He was found near Airport Road in town, and seems to be an older gentleman. He is very sweet and we are sure someone is out there looking for him. In the meantime, he’s safe and warm. Please call the clinic if you have any further information about him. ❤️

This sweet boy was in yesterday with an upset stomach. With a few medications and some supportive care this boy should be back to his normal self hopefully soon!

Happy RVT Month to Jamila, another one of our committed nightshifters who keep the hospital running smoothly in the wee hours. Jam is super ENERGETIC, easygoing, and bubbly, which brings so much joy to her fellow coworkers and the pets she cares for. Jam’s passion for veterinary medicine shines through in everything she does!

Jamila has this special little guy at home, named Tortellini! 🐢

KVEC RVT Month Adjective: EAGER!

Alex has been a casual RVT with KVEC for a while now, and she picks up shifts when she can to help out, despite working full time in regular practice! Alex is super EAGER and dedicated to learning all about emergencies, and recently monitored her very first anesthetic procedure at KVEC! She nailed it and the pet did amazing! We’re so proud of her, and love her commitment to learning!

She is one of the founding partners of KVEC, and we’re so fortunate to have her. ❤️

KVEC RVT Month Adjective: EMPATHETIC

RVT Shelby is another one of our incredible night shift technicians, taking care of hospitalized patients and triaging overnight emergencies. She’s particularly fond of our feline patients, and can often be found in the cat ward offering comfort and treats and special attention if the kitties are nervous about being in the hospital. Shelby is also very skilled at staying calm in emergency situations, offering EMPATHY and compassion with owners and pets alike.

KVEC RVT Month Adjective: OPTIMISTIC!

Say hello to our fearless leader, RVT Beth. She’s our practice manager extraordinaire, and keeps the hospital running smoothly. She’s still often found on the floor helping out during busy days, or up front answering phones as needed. Her incredibly kind and calm demeanour, coupled with her compassion and OPTIMISM, make her such an incredible boss and even better technician.

KVEC RVT Month Adjective: SPIRITED!

RVT Marianne is another one of our dedicated night shifters who keep all the hospitalized patients comfy at nighttime. She is known around the clinic to be SPIRITED and is always passionate about patient care. Marianne is especially skilled with regard to emergent anesthetic cases.

Marianne is currently on maternity leave, and we can’t wait to welcome her back! She has an affinity for grey kitties (she has 3 of them) and two doggos named Zoey and Bodey.

KVEC RVT Month Adjective: HILARIOUS

RVT Theresa worked for many years at a specialty and referral hospital in Toronto, and eventually settled in the Kawarthas. She now works at a regular practice during the week and comes to KVEC to help out on weekends! Clients can probably tell whenever Theresa is working, since all of the staff bust a gut when she’s around! She’s one of the most HILARIOUS and kind people, and really knows how to improve morale on a difficult day.

Theresa has KVEC’s old clinic cat, Dexter, living out his retirement at her house with a few other feline friends! Theresa is pictured here with her adorable doggo, Cooper.

Today also happens to be her birthday! Thank you for all of your hard work and HILARITY, T!

KVEC RVT Month Adjective: CHEERFUL

RVT Addie joins KVEC on a part time basis, and has learned so much about ER Medicine in the past couple years. She has a particular interest in stabilizing critical patients, and says she likes to be an advocate for sick and injured pets who cannot tell us where it hurts. Addie is always CHEERFUL, kind, and compassionate.

Addie has the cutest Border Collie X named Ferdinand (pictured), as well as two kitties!

Who doesn’t love a little kitten snuggle?! 💕 Peter is the snuggle king 👑

Another amazing blood donation from Bubbles, who belongs to our receptionist Susan. Bubbles is the sweetest girl, laying there not sedated and getting all the love! #savinglivesoneblooddonationatatime

Thank you so much to our incredible staff pet blood donor Duke who came in with his Mom the other day to help save a life. ❤️🩸 Duke was sedated for this collection, but woke up like nothing ever happened and received fluids under the skin equivalent to what we took to help him recover.

We’d like to close out 2023 with a heartwarming video of a little dog named Ruby, who unfortunately had a very scary and intensive stay in our ICU. Ruby had an anaphylactic reaction which caused her to bleed into her belly, and she needed a transfusion. She was hospitalized for many days but between her incredibly dedicated parents and our hardworking staff, Ruby has recovered enough to be discharged home. 💗 Working in the ER often means we see a lot of critical and unfortunate cases, who don’t always have as good an outcome as Ruby, so we celebrate when we can! 👏🏼 Wishing all of our clients a safe and Happy New Year! 🎇

Dr. Burns is expecting a baby in January, and the staff are split down the middle on what she is having. We tried the pendulum test using some suture material with inconclusive results. She has been craving salty (boy). 💙 She has had a lot of nausea (girl). 🩷 She has had clear skin (boy). 💙 She has been moodier (girl). 🩷 She is carrying high (boy). 💙 Baby’s heart rate is over 140 (girl). 🩷 What does everyone else think she’s having? 👶🏻
