Our team is excited to announce that we now have an online tool to schedule appointments, refill prescriptions, manage your pet’s health records, and more!
You may have already gotten an email about signing up for the app, but if not, keep an eye out, or ask our staff about getting started.
Don’t worry, for those who love talking to our wonderful team, we are still here to support you over the phone, via email, and of course in person, but we understand life gets busy, and working together to better your pet’s health is our top priority! 🐱🐶❤️

As Thanksgiving approaches, we need to be mindful of foods our pets can and should not have. 🦃

As an ER, we often see an influx of pets with pancreatitis after the holidays. Pancreatitis is inflammation of the pancreas, often caused by high-fat foods such as gravy, turkey skin, other fatty meats, and stuffing. Signs of pancreatitis include: vomiting and/or diarrhea, lethargy, inappetance, and belly pain.

There are also many foods that are toxic to our pets, often making appearances during the holidays, such as chocolate, alcohol, grapes and raisins, nuts and nutmeg, etc. If you believe your pet has ingested anything that may be toxic, please give us a call at the clinic ASAP (905) 576-3031.

Peep 👀 the post for a list of safe things to feed your pet over the holidays (in small amounts), and know we are here 24/7 should you have any questions, concerns, or emergencies. 🐶🐱

Echinococcus multilocularis, a tapeworm, was recently identified in a chipmunk in Oshawa.

Typically found in wild canines and rodents, it can infect humans and dogs through ingestion of eggs from infected wild animals.

Please avoid touching wild animals with bare hands, and dog owners should regularly treat their pets with a dewormer containing praziquantel.

Stay safe and protect your pets!

There is a new microchip scam that is evolving concerning renewing your pet's microchip information. They are asking about your private information to update their files AND/OR money to renew your pet's microchip.

These emails are fraudulent. Beyond the initial microchip implantation, there are no monitoring fees. This is yet another scam where people are trying to get personal information and/or funds. Please don't respond to them.

UPDATE: US dog importation rules.

These are changes for importing dogs to the USA. The changes take effect Aug 1 and will impact dogs travelling from Canada to the US. Dogs now entering the US must:

1. Be at least 6 months of age
2. Have a microchip (ISO)
3. Appear healthy upon arrival.
4. Have a DCD dog Import form receipt (it will only be available by the CDC on July 15th and must be submitted through the CDC website)
5. Have additional documentation which varies depending on where the dog has been in the past 6 months before entering the US and the dog's rabies vaccination status.

Your dog MUST have a microchip before a rabies vaccination is given. Even if your dog is not due for a rabies vaccination, a microchip needs to be implanted and then the rabies re-administered.

We are still waiting to here what paperwork they need from us (veterinarians).

Please remember that this is NOT our requirement, it's the CDC.

We will continue to keep you updated as we learn more.
