This week, had the honour of being part of Louis’ wish through 💙

With an interest in firefighting, Louis visited the fire hall and got a true firefighter’s experience! We geared him up and enjoyed a truck tour and ride, time with Sparky the Fire Dog, and even tested out the fire hose🚒

Now, we’re thrilled for Louis as he heads to next week as part of his wish.

The crew was lucky to have you, Louis!

⚠️TRIGGER WARNING: This post contains images that may be distressing to some viewers⚠️

Over the last month, Pickering Animal Services has provided care to many animals in need, including a cat suffering from a painful mouth ulcer, a dog with a broken leg, a cat struck by a car, and a dog with a 'cherry eye' that required delicate surgery.

These unexpected medical costs come on top of the shelter's regular treatments and surgeries. Thanks to the generosity of community members, the shelter is able to give these animals the care they deserve.

Here are just a couple of their stories⬇️

Fortune🥠 In mid-January, Fortune arrived at the shelter after being found freezing and struggling to move after being struck by a car. Fearing the worst, shelter staff rushed her to the Animal Emergency Clinic of Durham Region, where X-rays confirmed she did not have any broken bones. She was immediately placed on pain medication and antibiotics, and within days, she was on her feet again. She is now in a foster-to-adopt home, receiving the love and care she deserves.

Sunshine☀️ When Sunshine arrived at the shelter, she was suffering from a painful, inflamed mouth ulcer (often caused by flea infestations) as well as a cut on her front paw. Staff provided her with flea treatment and antibiotics, and today she is healthy and available for adoption! She sports a distinctive little smile as a reminder of her journey.

Both of these cats endured suffering that could have been prevented if they had been kept indoors. Keeping your cat indoors isn't just the law, it's the best way to protect your pet.

If you’d like to help animals like Fortune and Sunshine receive the urgent medical care they need, visit pickering.ca/donate
