Don’t fall for scams!

While seniors and vulnerable individuals may be particularly targeted, anyone can fall victim to fraudulent schemes, such as mail fraud and spam, door-to-door scams, identity theft, investment scams, and more.

Most recently, the City has received reports of anonymous flyers being delivered to homes, some soliciting money (from ‘The Justice Centre of Constitutional Freedoms’) and spreading misinformation.

These flyers contain false and misleading information, and do not represent any official City business.

Here’s what you can do to stay safe🔽

✅Verify information through official City sources or contact our Customer Care Centre at 905.683.7575 or [email protected]

✅Learn how to protect yourself from fraud with helpful video resources from Durham Regional Police Service: https://www.drps.ca/.../fraud.../fraud-prevention-videos/

🚫Never allow strangers to enter your home or take down information about you

If you have received a fraudulent phone call/email/communication and have not provided any personal information or lost any money, please contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1.888.495.8501 to file a report.

We encourage you to check in on your grandparents, parents, friends, and neighbours – keep them safe by sharing this information, and reminding them to stay vigilant.

Mayor Ashe’s Statement in response to Pickering Airport Lands Announcement

Pickering, ON, January 28, 2025 - For over fifty years, the question of whether to proceed with building an airport in Pickering has been a subject of spirited discussion and debate within our community.

In this span, we have consistently advocated for clarity and decisive action from the federal government and appreciate the thoughtful deliberation invested in making this determination. We can now move forward with confidence, focusing on the City’s core priorities as we work to build a vibrant and prosperous future for our residents, businesses, and visitors.

The Government of Canada plans to transfer high-conservation-value lands to Parks Canada to support the expansion of Rouge National Urban Park. As host to a significant portion of the park, we commend this commitment to advancing conservation efforts and enhancing one of the GTA’s most cherished natural assets.

The City looks forward to collaborating with the federal government throughout the planning process and actively participating in the forthcoming consultations on the site’s future uses. We remain committed to fostering meaningful dialogue and collaboration with all stakeholders while advocating for opportunities that maximize both environmental and economic benefits. This represents a valuable opportunity to drive long-term prosperity for Pickering and Durham Region’s growing communities.

Mayor Kevin Ashe

January 27 was , a day of reflection and remembrance.

It marks the same date in 1945, when the largest N**i concentration camp, Auschwitz-Birkenau, was liberated.

Designated by the United Nations General Assembly, this day honours the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust, as well as the millions of others who were victims of N**ism.

We're happy to share another adoption success story! Animal Services staff just received this lovely update from Dora's new family⬇️

"Please let everyone know how well she is doing! She is so relaxed and comfortable.

I bought her a pink spiky ball and she loved playing catch in the basement on the carpet, and would actually drop it and wait for me to throw again.

I didn't think she liked the snow, but as you said, it was just the cold. We went for a walk and she loved it, burying her face in the fresh snow.

She ran into the neighbour's dog when we were out last night and she barked when she noticed them, then went and sniffed Calla who walked away and that was end of it (Calla is a brown lab).

We are very happy we were able to adopt Dora. Thank you all so much."

We are so happy for you Dora❤️
