We’ve been quiet here, with a recent litter of puppies, keeping a puppy and a recent move, things have been hectic!
But here’s something we’ve been working on. Impulse control with a 5 month old hound.
Diesel is very persistent, barks and jumps for food but he will do anything for food! Notice his slow feeder bowl full of kibble and raw, he is learning to ‘wait’ until given his release word to eat. He’s been perfecting this over the last month. Slow and steady 😁

Training Walks!
What does this include?
I will come to your home, get your dog or puppy prepared for a walk and head out. Walks can be either 30 minutes or 1 hour.
During this walk we will work on leash walking, basic obedience, socialization and remaining calm in public places.
30 minute walks - $40
1 hour walks - $70
*You must be there upon pick up and drop off to discuss the session

Chief’s Heel!
Walking on my right side, I called him into a heel. He fell behind and I snapped my fingers as a reminder of where I want him. But instead, he fell behind to heel on my left side where he has been trained to be all this time.
Was he in the correct place for a ‘proper’ heel? No. Did I still reward? Absolutely!
Why did I reward even though it’s not the exact behaviour I wanted? Because it was a step forward! He used his brain and associated the cue word with the correct side and was getting into correct place. He made the correct decision to fall into a heel on my left side, even though he was originally on my right side. And that deserves a reward! 🐶
I have been super quiet 🤫 on this page recently. But I have a good reason!
I have been busy prepping for the arrival of some puppies and they successfully made their way into the world today. Dakota is being such a wonderful mama and puppies are all happy and healthy 🐶 Surprise 🎉

I understand with so many more experienced trainers in the area, and so many new trainers popping up (yep, including me!) it can be hard to pick a trainer. At MisChief Dog Training, I do everything I can to work with what’s best for you and your dog. We can explore different training methods and tools, different training plans and exercises as well!
I will do what’s best for your dog, and ensure my training shows that. Not all dogs are meant to use more invasive tools, and not all dogs are meant to work without one. I have experience with both ends of that stick, with stubborn and eager to please dogs. I have 3 hunting hounds and a husky, so believe me when I say I know stubborn 😂
I may not be your first choice as a trainer, but I would still love to discuss some options with you and would be glad to try to change your mind.
I have worked hard to get to where I am, and I work hard with my training and am learning new things every day.

The hot weather only slows us down a little bit!
Do you remember our previous post about Chief’s heel work? Look at the difference! Now, his placement is much better, he’s closer, he’s more attentive and getting the hang of heeling from stop to go and go to stop 😁 Immediate sitting when I stop and continuing with his release word!
This is the difference just 5 minutes a day can make! He also offers a heel, by himself, almost his entire walk now. 🐶

One of the most common questions asked! Is my dog/puppy too old/young to train?
In short, absolutely not!
Dogs learn their whole lives, and often enjoy training when it’s done right to suit their needs. Puppies begin learning as soon as their born, from their mom, and continue learning as they age from their mom, siblings, surroundings and human handlers.
Of course, training will look different for an 8 week old puppy compared to an 8 year old dog, but they can both learn and it’s encouraged to continue training throughout their whole life!
I encourage training to start as soon as you bring your puppy home! It’s great for bonding and getting your puppy on the right track from the start.
Older dogs can be trained as well, whether it’s a new trick or simple obedience. Training will be very different for older dogs, especially if they have any health concerns, and often has to be made more interesting for them.
Of course, it’s much easier to train a puppy than an older dog on many accounts. Older dogs become set in their ways, and usually have had their habits for a lot longer. Puppies are a clean slate and can be trained, usually, very easily!
I’m sure you’ve wondered, what’s involved in our enrichment information service / sessions!?
Enrichment info sessions will include an entirely personalized list of activities, lick mats, snuffle mats, slow feeder ideas and small training activities to keep your dog physically and mentally bright.
Enrichment is a big word when it comes to the training world, and it can mean so many things for different dogs. These information sessions will guide you on how to keep your dog happy and content based on your needs, your dogs, cost effective for you, dietary restrictions and more.
All information will be sent digitally.
Our reactivity sessions! Extremely beneficial for both you and your dog.
Our Reactivity training sessions are suggested for any dogs who struggle with being too reactive. What is reactivity, though? When a dog sees something, like a squirrel, another dog, a person, car or bike and they have an over exaggerated reaction to it. This reaction may include barking, yelling, extreme whining, growling, jumping and lunging. Reactivity is not an easy fix, which is why it is suggested to have reoccurring weekly sessions. Our Reactivity sessions will be very involved, we will be working very closely to tackle this. There are options to book one session at a time, or multiple up front to fully commit to helping your dog feel at ease in the public.
What’s involved in our intermediate obedience sessions?
Intermediate Obedience works best for dogs who already have a solid foundation set and good skills when it comes to basic obedience. In our intermediate sessions, we will work on proofing these skills and work on obedience in higher distraction environments. This will help you and your dog in real life situations, and finally set your training like concrete! The goal at the end of these sessions is to have a dog that will excel at loose leash walking, obedience and even recall in high distraction settings and even on Main Street!
These sessions can also be customized for dogs that just need a little touch up on their skills!

Beginner Obedience is best suited for dogs and puppies above 20 weeks (5 months) of age. During these sessions, we will proof the sit/stay, down/stay, place, leash manners, leave it and recall. We can also sort out some behavioural problems if suitable.
These sessions can also be used as a refresher for older dogs before moving on to our intermediate obedience.

Puppy Obedience sessions are best suited for puppies aged 8 weeks - 20 weeks (2months - 5months).
This is where we will begin setting foundations, inteoduce common training techniques and begin on basic obedience as well as leash manners.
We can also work on house training and other common behavioural problems.
These are all private sessions and fully customizable to each puppy.
Puppies will learn best on a consistent training schedule and it is suggested, but no required, to set up 1 session per week over a course of 4-5 weeks for puppy obedience.

First up: All Day Training
Our all day training services are best utilized over the span of 4-5 weeks, single sessions can be offered as well.
Your dog will come to my home for the day where we will have a training schedule that we stick to for the day. Also included: fun, play and walks!
Drop off in the morning and pick up in the afternoon / evening!
At the end of each day train, we will discuss what we worked on throughout the day and a lesson will be given. You will also be sent home or emailed a structure training schedule to work on over the week until the next session.
These sessions are very beneficial for dogs who are reactive, need work on obedience like impulse control, recall, leash walking manners, place training, and even strengthening sit/stays and down/stays and so much more!
QC Pet Studies is where I took my course and got certified! They have a very informational course with lots of constructive feedback on training techniques :) Glad I was able to learn with them!

We’ve had Dakota (bloodhound) and Chief (redbone coonhound) since they were 7 weeks old. They’re now 1 years and 2 years!
Miska (husky mix) and Honey (American foxhound) were both rescues who we got so lucky with. Miska is about 3 years old, and we believe Honey is somewhere between 8-10 years!
If you haven’t noticed, I named the business after Miska and Chief - they were the first two dogs we had gotten that pushed me into training. We got Miska and she was extremely reactive, and I spent hours researching and putting the work in. We’re now at the point where she’s a good neighborhood dog! We got Chief when he was a puppy, and although we still put the work in he also ended up reactive. We are still working with him on his reactivity, but we’re getting SO close to completing that training with him.
Honey and Chief are working hounds - they run deer like champs! Dakota will also be partaking this year and we know she’s going to nail it. Miska loves being a small animal/bird dog, although she has hip dysplasia and is limited.
High energy, working dogs have a special place in my heart. Although they can all be so stubborn, we have a wonderful pack that we have worked very hard with. We have 3 dogs that are able to be off leash almost anywhere, with excellent recall, and have worked through the difficult parts of each breed to be able to have well mannered and behaved dogs.

Booking multiple sessions at once (consistent, once per week for 4-6 weeks) will result in a deal, as most training services are most effective with continuous upkeep, work, and check ins. Having 1 session per week, for multiple weeks in a row, will help you see the most improvement.
* Board and train is nothing we often offer, but we may be able to work out. There is capacity for one dog at a time, which means a better training experience for your dog. Terms and conditions apply with board and train.

Hi everyone! I figured it was about time I introduce myself!
I’m Payton and I’ve just recently completed my first dog training course and have received my certificate, which means I’m able to train all dogs. I do plan to take another course down the road, and am always willing to take more educational courses as well. I am learning new things every day, and this is super important in this industry.
I have 4 dogs of my own, 3 are working scenthounds and 1 is a rescue husky. I have done their training myself (with the help of my boyfriend) and don’t think I’ve done bad with them at all. 3 of them are able to be off leash almost anywhere, they all have manners and are improving everyday. We still have so much training to do! I do consider myself to specialize in medium to large breed dogs, but will never turn any others down. Workings dogs, pets, companions are all welcome!
I am a balanced trainer, meaning I will use any tools and training methods necessary to help you reach your goals with your dog. All methods used are entirely science backed, and used properly and responsibly.
Currently based in Prince Edward County, all sessions will be one on one which means they’re entirely customizable! Sessions may also be offered entirely online as well, which will allow me to reach out to more areas. Don’t be afraid to send us a message even if you’re not nearby!
Although I don’t have years of experience as many others, I am still just as capable. It’s important to be open minded, willing to learn and excited to head into your training journey.
