Our grumpy old Simon hated getting brushed or having his nails trimmed. We used some pain medication Hydromorphone to sedate him and provide him relief from his arthritis, and this allowed us to give him a lion cut 🦁. With his new hair cut and trimmed nails he is a much happier old man now!
Matted fur that is tight to the skin is very uncomfortable and painful, we removed any matts and prevented the need to brush him with this cut.
Now to find him a Halloween sweater! 🎃

If so, that pond water may be covered with a floating layer of blue-green algae that can be deadly☠.
Blue-green algae refers to a microscopic cyanobacterium that is found in fresh and brackish water of ponds and lakes🏞, but it can also grow in fountains, garden pots, birdbaths, and anywhere water is stagnant (not flowing).
Blue-green algae is present across North America 🌎 and grow readily in hot and humid climates.
Typically it is seen in late Summer 🌼 and early fall🍁.
Blue-green algae is toxic to anyone or animal that consumes it🏊♂️🐕🐈🐎🐑🐖🐄, especially those who swim in it. Humans may develop contact dermatitis from exposure to blue-green algae, so if you notice red or irritated skin after swimming, call your doctor.
🧐🗒Signs my animal have been poisoned?
- Blue-green algae can produce two types of toxins, microcystins and anatoxins.
- Microcystins:
• Weakness
• Lethargy
• Lack of appetite
• Vomiting🤮
• Diarrhea (dark, tarry stool)💩
• Bleeding
• Pale gums
• Jaundice (yellow tint to gums and skin)😷
• Shock
• Seizures
• Collapse and coma
• Death
- Anatoxins:
• Weakness or inability to walk
• Excessive salivation🤤
• Excessive tearing😭
• Difficulty breathing
• Blue discoloration of skin and mucous membranes
• Tremors
• Seizures
• Muscle rigidity
• Paralysis
• Disorientation
• Coma
• Death
