Babies having babies is a reason TNR work is so important: imagine being a kitten birthing and raising kittens on your own in this extreme weather, and finding the food and the energy to protect them while still so young...
This young momma, Sasha and her kittens are safe and she is helping to socialize them – showing them the way to a better life. Sasha is appreciative of the luxury of inside life and how food shows up in her dish! She offers instant appreciation and affection to the point that taking photos of her is difficult because she keeps wanting to head bump your hands and arms. She is at peace with loud noises and is quiet and calm herself.
She tested negative for FIV/FeLV, is spayed, vaccinated and parasite treated. It takes a team to do this work, and finding homes for cats that want human affection is part of that work: be part of the team by spreading the word or adopting her yourself!

Recently a small Westville neighborhood held their annual street party where friends gathered to enjoy food, friendship and local musical talent. During their street party they generously collected food and money to donate to the community cats in our county. We are touched by their thoughtfulness and appreciate their support!! A truly generous group!

On April 7, 2024 we posted about a poor older boy who had significant wounds and broken teeth and who we were hoping would surrender to love. Well surrender he did... fabulous Fulton is an absolute love bug!! Despite what must have been horrific years outside he is doing great and by great we mean that his diagnosis of diabetes appears to be managed; 3units once a day and we are finally seeing some small sign of wound healing. Fulton is the perfect example of why we do what we do - maybe they all cant be brought inside as pet cats but they can be helped and given true
quality of life! A big THANK YOU to Dr. Hodder & crew at Abercrombie Animal Hospital for all their wonderful care of Fulton and the countless others!
A giant thank you to Global Pet Foods Pictou County - Stellarton for always thinking of us to donate food, treats, litter and other essential supplies for our cats and kittens that we have in our care. We couldn't help the community cats of Pictou County without our generous supporters!

We are so grateful for the wonderful applications and truly appreciate the tremendous interest in adopting CARMA kittens.
Clarke (ginger) & Clinton (buff) are healthy and playful 13week old littermates. Clarke is sweet and shy and Clinton is chatty and loves to cuddle. They love each other, playing with their favorite fishing toy, are around children and other cats. These boys are the littermates to the kitten that caught a ride across town under the hood of a car, who we miraculously found days later along with their mother. We are happy to report that mom is spayed and has a new home and their daredevil brother is a foster fail (he is one lucky boy in more ways than one). Now Clarke & Clinton are ready for their next big adventure. They are negative for FIV/FeLV, have been parasite treated and vaccinated. A neuter contract is part of the adoption agreement for when they become age/size ready. This incredibly sweet and thoughtful young girl made a wonderful donation to the community cats as part of her birthday wish!! Thank you so much Emily for thinking of the cats on your special day :).
This beautiful innocent boy was euthanized today as he tested positive for FIV & FeLV - he is the face of owner neglect and abandonment. His death is a result of having never been neutered and then left to fend for himself. We try not to make too many of these painful posts as life is hard and it is great to share all the good stories, however sometimes we also need to share the heartbreak. This little soul had value and his life mattered! We grieve for him and acknowledge the two remarkable women who cared for him and worked hard to offer him something more and although painful, they did, as he did not have to suffer and die alone.

They just made a huge donation, with lots of kitten food, just in time for all the kittens we have in our care. Thank you both for helping to keep little bellies full !!
This morning we took in a very scared young mother and her equally scared trio of kittens. The kittens are young and will tame and as always we are hopeful their mom will surrender to love.
We have been busy over the last couple of weeks responding to lots of calls about kittens. Last week we got a kitten that had dropped from under the hood of a car and miraclously we found the mother cat and two littermates miles away across town. And again yesterday got a sweet little guy who also came from under the hood of a car and has some grease marks to prove it. We are grateful to vigilant community members who not only take notice, but take action!!! These kittens are not available for adoption at this time.

If you are looking for a sweet gentle little soul to love then we have the perfect young girl for you. Aileen is less than a year old, is a bit shy having lived outside with only her mom however her mom was a tame stray and the property owner spent time with Aileen and because of this she does enjoy people and attention. Aileen is happiest when with her foster mom, is described as a purr machine and will even reach out with her paws (never uses claws) to hold her foster mom's hand should she think attention time is over. Aileen would prefer a quiet home with people who are equally sweet and gentle 🙂. Aileen is FIV/FeLV negative, has been spayed, parasite treated and vaccinated. Another young male from our large colony. He was described as quite fiesty and not impressed with our TNR service. We will continue to work at this colony however trapping is becoming a challenge which is expected as we suspect there are only a handful remaining and they are the elusive ones which means we need to get more creative 🙂.
These two boys were trapped late last week and after testing negative for FIV/FeLV they were neutered, ear notched and parasite treated. They are currently in foster care and we are optimistic that they will surrender to love and will not need to return to community life; we are always happy when we don't have to do the 'return' part of TNR.

For us the key to trapping is to place the trap days earlier and to start feeding the cats in the trap so they are comfortable going in and a routine is established. Some tasty food also helps, on chilly mornings we serve it up warm, making it harder for them to resist. And... we cross our fingers that they cooperate 🙂.
