We take the health of our pups seriously and always seek out the best, most resent research to help our owners navigate the care of their pups.
Golden Retrievers have been plagued with hip dysplasia (which we try to mitigate with recommended late spays and neuters think after 24 months) and cancers which we encourage our female pup owners to consider OSS - O***y Sparing Spays which are performed by an experienced veterinarian in New Brunswick and for those wanting their boys intact after 24 months a GSN - G***d Sparing Neuter which can also be done by the veterinarian in NB.
We breed away from as much of the cancers in some lineages as we can and do not breed high COIs - coefficients of inbreeding which will bring together the worst genetic outcomes for pups (research proves this). It’s also very important to us to adhere to the latest guidelines for health clearances (this is not a quick health check by a veterinarian like some BYBs (Back Yard Breeders, would have you believe) in which we do radiographic screening and orthopedic clearances through OFA - Orthopedic Foundation For Animals and/or PENN Hip (University of Pennsylvania Hip Improvement Program) to screen out our breeding dogs who do not meet the recommended standard for Golden Retrievers (so no X-rays showing the breeding dogs have hip dysplasia or high risks to have).
Please remember that ‘it was so cute to leave it’ pup you get at a discount will most likely cost you in heart ache and veterinary costs for disabilities down the road if you think with your heart not your head.
Always select a breeder who cares about the long healthy life of your golden pup when they hand you a piece of their heart the day you take them home, they are the stewards of the breed you need to support ❤️🦮
