Meet Penny,

Penny arrived at Sumac for some refreshing, she was very sensitive, reactive and she would panic and bolt through transitions. She was with me for a short 2 months and very quickly settled, transitions were relaxed and she loved exploring the trails!

Way to go Penny, and her owner working to better their relationship!

I’m going to start sharing some client success stories to keep everyone up to date!

Here is one of the most recent training Horses, Breeze. She is by far the tallest of the horses I have started. Breeze arrived at her new home the 1st of April, skin hauled over bones, she did not know how to lead or be a horse. In just short of 2 months of work Breeze has come leaps and bounds... literally.. started over fences, walk trot canter beautifully, trails and more, this girl will do it!

I’m excited for this mares future, which ever direction that may be! ❤️

It’s been a while since I updated my page! On April 28th Hemi, (who has given lesson to so many people for the 2 years before Covid) gave birth to beautiful male version of her! He’s full of her attitude and s***k! His name is Nike and both him and Hemi are living their best life at Sumac Farms!

Hey all!

With Covid numbers on the rise once again in Nova Scotia, we are putting in place some new guidelines so that we can continue doing what we both enjoy!

😷 we will not be taking on any more students.

😷 if any lesson students and/or parents have visited the HRM within the last 2 weeks please inform us and we will go from there.

😷 if you are experiencing any symptoms please reschedule.

😷 for off property lessons I will no longer be entering areas of the facility where social distancing cannot be maintained therefore students will be required to tack their horses themselves.

😷 for training horses I will be using my own equipment for the time being.

Thank you for the continued support and let’s work together to keep everyone safe. If you have any questions or concerns please reach out, we are happy to accommodate 😊

How’s your week going?

Recently I have had this conversation with students and their parents. After tonight’s lesson student rode through a very difficult ride on her own horse, I wanted to share.

To the “lesson horses”

To Brass and Rosie, who likely gave me my first tumbles and bolts before I can even really remember.

To Bingo, who repeatedly slammed on her breaks for a bite of grass sending me on her head.

To Pine, who bucked, bolted, reared or just wouldn’t go forward. Who frustrated me to no end, left me crying a lot, made me hate him, made me hate my mother (who coached me) some days for pushing me to keep with it.

To Josh, who kept jumping out of the dressage ring at horse show, and who tried to roll on me while riding.

But also...

To Brass and Rosie, who put up with hanging off their heads to put on a halter or bouncing around on their backs learning my balance and for putting up with me learning to steer.

To Bingo, who stood and waited for me after every time I fell while learning to jump.

To Pine who gave me his all, who pushed me to be better no matter how much I cried. Who pushed me to ride more, learn more and to do a little bit of everything. Who kept me safe in all the stupid things I tried.

To Josh, who was pretty well perfect when he wanted to be.

There were many days I did not want to get back in the saddle, there were days that I wanted to quit, and days I needed a lot of encouragement. So to my students, when I push you to keep riding, know I have been there, I have been in your shoes, it does get better.

Monday may have been a holiday for most, but not for the 4 legged critters. ❤️ Long time client, Spyder!
