Our veterinarians offer a full range of small and large animal services. We are located behind the John Deere dealership and the Co-Op. We offer in-clinic services as well as on farm services in Pincher Creek and surrounding areas: Brock

et, Twin Butte, Waterton, Lundbreck, Cowley, into the Crowsnest Pass, and up Highway 22. Because our veterinarians work both in and out of the clinic, it is necessary to call ahead and make an appointment to ensure that we have a doctor available to serve you.

Read the tips below to make sure your furry pets are ready for the cold weather!

Did you know that your horse may require 10% more calories a day to maintain body condition in cold weather! 🐎

Here are some additional tips to help your equine friends this winter!

• Have an understanding of your horses nutritional requirements

• Consider additional stress factors when assessing caloric intake: gestation, chronic pain, metabolic disease, parasite infestation, and contagious illness will significantly increase your horses demand for calories.

• Roughage is the main source of heat for your horse.

• Horses with moderate hair coats will require additional calories.

• Water is critical during the winter to prevent gastrointestinal complications (colic).

Scheduling a physical exam with your veterinarian is a good place to start to discuss nutritional requirements, dental exams, current immunizations, and deworming.

With the cold spell quickly sneaking up on us, here are some safety tips for your pets during the winter months ❄️

• Towel dry your pet after coming inside. Make sure to get between their toes!

• Avoid shaving your pets down to skin

• Bathe your pet as little as possible during the cold spells

• Massaging petroleum jelly or other paw protectants onto their pads may help protect them from salt and other chemicals

• Booties provide even more coverage

• If you have an outdoor dog, ensure they have a sheltered place to sleep and use straw instead of blankets!

• Like coolent, antifreeze is a lethal poison to your pet. Take extra care this winter to clean up any spills around your vehicle

• Remember, if it's too cold for you, it's probably too cold for your pet 🐶

If you are expecting a foal this spring, it's time to discuss the pneumabort vaccine!

Interesting fact: Unvaccinated mares are 4x more likely to abort.

Pneumabort is the only equine vaccine labeled for use in pregnant mares to aid in the prevention of abortion due to equine herpesvirus type 1 infections, as well as to help prevent respiratory infections.

💉 Mares need to be vaccinated at 5, 7, and 9 months of gestation.

If you have any questions regarding vaccinating your pregnant mare, reach out to your veterinarian!
