โš ๏ธ๐Ÿ“ขPSA for Pincher Creek and area!

The team at Country Vets are working hard to help 4 confirmed parvovirus cases from Pincher Creek and area. These cases are incredibly difficult to manage, highly contagious, outcomes are variable and can unfortunately lead to death.

โš ๏ธ Once a puppy comes in contact with the virus, they can develop symptoms within 3-7 days, and clinical signs can progress quickly to severe lethargy, vomiting, and hemorrhagic diarrhea.

โš ๏ธ Parvovirus can be easily transmitted in almost any environment, including contact with f***s and any contaminated surface, including our own clothing or canine species (coyotes and foxes) that wander into your yard.

โš ๏ธ High-risk dogs include puppies, unvaccinated dogs, and immunocomprimosed dogs.

โš ๏ธ Parvovirus can be confirmed from a test your veterinarian will run and have results within 15 minutes. Treatment will be started immediately.

๐ŸถFortunately, parvovirus is completely preventable by vaccinating puppies from the ages of 8 weeks and into adulthood. ๐Ÿถ

This virus is devastating for everyone involved. Please do your part in vaccinating your dogs to help prevent the spread of parvovirus in our community!

Interesting case and use of the Madigan squeeze on this little cutie!

This foal was a red bag delivery, which is considered a true emergency. A red bag delivery happens when the placenta separates from the endometrium (lining of the uterus) prior to delivery. When this happens, the foal is getting very little oxygen and must be delivered ASAP.
Thankfully, the owner was able to help deliver the foal!

These photos are following the delivery. The Filly was very quiet, dull, and lethargic, often referred to as a dummy foal.

Dr. Amanda and her team tried the Madigan squeeze. This specific squeeze is an approach developed to create pressure that mimics the normal birth canal pressures, which can signal the foal to transition from sleeping in the womb to wakefulness. In this situation, it worked fantastic!

Thankfully, we had some donated colostrum from another mare and were able to supplement the Filly! A very successful story in what could have had a very different outcome!

We hope everyone enjoys this beautiful week ahead of us. However, we'd like to remind our wonderful clients about the risks of heat stroke in your pets, big and small!

All dogs, regardless of breed, are vulnerable to the effects of excessive heat. Thatโ€™s because they canโ€™t cool themselves as efficiently as people can. Even dogs with thin coats can suffer from the effects of the sun and heat, including heatstroke and even sunburns.

โ˜€๏ธ Avoid exercising your pets during the heat of the afternoon, aim for morning or evenings.

โ˜€๏ธ Dogs paw pads can burn on pavement, walk on grass, and check their paws periodically ๐Ÿพ

โ˜€๏ธ Never leave your pet in a parked vehicle

โ˜€๏ธ Purchase a cooling vest for your pet to help them stay cool

โ˜€๏ธ Give free access to water and plenty of shade!

If at any point you are concerned your pet has heat stroke, contact your veterinarian immediately!

Sometimes, it's an all hands on deck type of day! When there is an emergency, the staff at CV are trained in many different scenarios to accomdate whatever emergency walks in the door quickly and effectively.

In this situation, it was an emergency c-section! During c-sections, timing is crucial, and we need all the help we can get to stimulate the puppies' breathing.

There is also something very magical about a team coming together, working in sync with one another, and communicating effectively to save lives. Go team go!!

This little came guy came in for an umbilical hernia repair with Dr. Amanda!

An umbilical hernia develops when a portion of the lining of the abdomen, part of the intestine, and/or fluid from the abdomen comes through the muscle of the abdominal wall. This can cause serious concerns if it goes untreated.

He was a good boy for Chelby, while the doctors discussed the best course of action!

Here is Dr. Keliesha, performing an eye enucleation on a calf! Swipe to see the before! ๐Ÿ‘

Eye enucleation is removal of the eye. Unfortunately, eye injuries are quite common in animals due to their varied environments, trauma, or medical issues. Eye removal is the most effective way to manage pain, remove tumors, or alleviate severe infections.

This little guy was sedated and heavily blocked, so Dr. Keliesha could safely remove his eye! He is going to feel so much better! Happy recovery, little man! ๐Ÿฎ

Ultrasounds are a common practice here at Country Vets. Having the opportunity to use this noninvasive, safe diagnostic tool allows us to visualize structures, movement, free fluid, and evaluating certain conditions.

At Country Vets, we use ultrasoundography in all areas of the clinic, including small animal, equine, bovine, and even goats or anything in between. It's a valued tool for reproduction purposes as well!
