This is what I think of EVERY time I see a dog out the window. This is a worse case scenario, but even just a head out can result in major eye damage due to debris. Please keep them safe and if you can’t use a crate (ideal) then buckle them in. Max is one very lucky dog.

***Warning...description of traumatic injury ***

Max is lucky to be alive.

Max was riding with his owners and sitting in the backseat of the vehicle, with the window partly down to allow a fresh breeze for him. The window was not fully down - it was about halfway, which should have been enough to deter Max from sticking his head out.

However, Max saw or smelled something irresistible and in a blink, managed to get himself fully out of the window. He fell onto the road where he was hit by a cement truck and subsequently dragged.

Max had severed an artery - without the extremely fast action of his people he would not have survived. They managed to quickly get him to the Metro Animal Emergency Clinic where he received immediate life saving care.

Unbelievably, Max did not suffer any broken bones! His road rash is serious, however, and requires weekly bandage changes. But he's alive and he's going to be okay ❤️

A big thank you to Max and his people for allowing us to share his story! It's a good reminder that even with the best of precautions pets can find a way to get themselves into the most unimaginable situations.
