I realize this is a disappointment to everyone who has been waiting for puppies by me. However, life happens and I will not bend my ethics, morality or knowledge of breeding practices or basenjis just to produce puppies on a chance.
Nugget came into season very, VERY, late. Near the end of January. After much deliberation I opted not to breed her at this time in case this was an off season cycle. North American Basenjis tend to have fall seasons, which is Africa's spring. Experiencing a summer pup is something I will not recommend or want to experience, again.
All health testing is done. A stud from Klassic is lined up. I will not waste a fantastic breeding like that on a less than ideal chance.
The next time Nugget comes into season will, hopefully, be the fall of 2024. At that time she will be progesterone tested to ensure an optimum breeding.

Well, after waiting so, SO long for Nugget to come into season...she finally did. Unfortunately, summer litters are rather difficult. I will not breed this time and will wait to see if her cycles become a bit more regular. I am hoping for a Fall litter or even an early winter litter. If I bred her now her puppies would be born in mid to late April. They would be going home in late July. In this breed it is not ideal.
