Please, please ensure that your dog is wearing a tag with your cell phone number on it when you are travelling. Microchip them if you can, it's best, but tags are so easy and fast.

Additionally, if you are headed up to a cottage, wilderness area, forest, etc and even think there's a chance your dog MIGHT go off leash or get away, please put a tracking device on them.

Options:

1. Air Tag/Samsung Galaxy Tag.
Upside: Cheap, easy, reusable for other things. Don't need recharging as the batteries last for months.
Downside: Range is short, relies on networks of devices being nearby to ping off of. So where there aren't people these don't track well. (In more populated places these are awesome.) Mostly water resistant, may not be totally waterproof.

2. GPS collar block. AKA Tractive.
Upside: Waterproof, tracks anywhere, you'll find your dog even if they are in the middle of a swamp
Downside: Needs to be recharged every couple of days. Needs to have a subscription.

So please, for your sanity, and the safety of your pets, be prepared.

Also, keep them hydrated. Keep their paws cool on the hot days, and remember that they are not children in fur suits, they are amazing animals who deserve every comfort we can provide and all our respect.

Happy Summertime, folks! It's that time of year when we have more pups at the park so let's review a few of the park rules, which are posted right at the main gate:

Among other things: intact male dogs are not to be in with the general population as they tend to go after the ladies. Nobody wants to see that happening. :)

Don't bring toys into the park as fights can get started easily.

PICK UP YOUR DOG'S P**P AND PUT IT IN THE GARBAGE!!

Consider keeping your leash with you as you walk the park. If a problem breaks out it's easier to leash the dogs to separate them.

If your dog tends to be a fighter, don't bring them to the park. If you insist on bringing them, put a muzzle on or keep them on the leash. We encourage everyone to watch for problem dogs (or problem owners) and take their pictures! We can have them banned from the park for disregarding the safety of all.

Have fun. It's a beautiful park and it's here for all to enjoy.

It's season, Grey Bruce.

We're encouraging residents and visitors to take steps to prevent tick bites while outdoors, particularly in locations where ticks typically live, such as in or near wooded or bushy areas, tall grass, or piles of leaves.

This annual reminder coincides with the release of Public Health Ontario’s 2024 'Ontario Blacklegged Tick Established Risk Areas Map,' formerly the 'Ontario Lyme Disease Map: Estimated Risk Areas.'

The updated map includes a new ‘Estimated Risk Area’ in Grey Bruce – locations where blacklegged ticks, which can transmit the bacteria that causes Lyme disease to people, have been identified or are known to occur and where people could encounter them. The new ‘Estimated Risk Area,’ in central Grey-Bruce, brings to four the total number of such risk areas in the two counties.

It was my decision.

I knew what I was getting myself into. Nobody made me, nobody put a gun to my head. I wanted it just like this. I knew I’d be tied down. Caring for them, feeding them, walking them. It doesn’t matter what the weather is or if I’m in the mood or not. I promised them that as long as they were with me I would give them everything, take care of them and when they are sick I would take them to the doctor. They are my babies.

I knew my wallet would be tighter, my clothes would be covered in dog hair, and my stuff could be ruined, but that was the choice that I made.

I can never be mad at them. Damaged items can be replaced, carpets can be cleaned, and my clothes can be washed. What can’t be replaced, however, are those sparkling eyes that are so happy to see me when I come home as they fall all over jumping on me. It doesn’t matter if I’m gone for 5 mins or 5 hours. Their affection and unconditional love are irreplaceable.

There are times that they feel my sadness or hear me cry. They come poking me with their cold noses and licking me with their slobbery tongues. Always making me laugh and feel loved.

You don’t even notice the years fly by. Eventually their faces turn grey, movement slows down, they no longer are able to jump when I get home but the excitement is still the same.

Then the light starts to fade from their sparkling eyes, they stop going for long walks, they sleep a lot more, and their days are spent laying next to me resting. We may have to go more often to the doctor. I may have to clean up accidents more often.

I wanted this when I decided to bring them into my life. I wanted their childhood, their youth and their old age with all of its beauties, happy moments and even their worst days with all its pain. There is not a single moment that I regret. I took charge of them when I took them in until the day I have to let them go.

My dogs will never have a new owner. My dogs will never end up in a rescue or at a shelter.

I’m not moving if they can’t come with me!

They are part of my life, part of my family and with me they will stay! I have taken over this responsibility from their first to their last day with me.
