your next family member could be homeless, in foster care or at a shelter right now

We don’t often share hard truths, especially on holidays, but it’s nearing the end of spay & neuter awareness month and we dedicated to an educational post every Monday.

So here we are, hoping that this helps someone realize just how many dogs exist on this planet and just maybe helps someone decide to go the route of supporting a dog that needs it. Or maybe help someone make the decision to spay & neuter their pet, or be more careful with an unfixed animal.

And lastly, the goal right now isn’t for every dog to have a “home” in a North American sense. But maybe for our dogs to have a support system to avoid pain and suffering. Right now, that is not manageable with the number of dogs depending on us.

I will always advocate for canine car safety and that dogs are safest riding in a crate, secured in the car or with a crash tested harness secured in the car. This photo is why….you may control your own driving, you cannot control those around you.

‘In a car crash at 35 miles per hour, an unrestrained 60-pound dog becomes a 2,700-pound projectile. The force of that impact could kill both the dog and the car’s human occupants. Yet many of us drive around every day with our dogs just sitting on the back seat, or even on our laps.

Securing a dog is kind of like buying a fire extinguisher,” says Patrick Kruse, the founder and R&D director of Bend, Oregon–based dog gear brand Ruffwear. Most of us don’t plan on testing a dog safety harness, but if you ever do, it really becomes apparent that having a dog restrained is a good thing.”’
