Portage Animal Welfare Society Inc. is a non-profit, charitable organization which is operated exclusively by volunteers and is managed by a Board of Directors. In October 2014, P.A.W.S. Inc. realized its dream of opening an Animal Adoption Centre (AAC). The centre allows us to intake and shelter cats while they wait to be adopted into their forever homes. The cats are cared for by volunteers who

give generously of their time to ensure they are provided a safe, clean environment. The cats are allowed time for socialization, exercise and plenty of cuddles on a daily basis. The AAC operates under the guidelines of the Chief Veterinarian Office of Manitoba and is subject to regular inspections to ensure quality of care for the cats. Our adoptable dogs are cared for in foster homes. The foster families play a valuable role in socializing the dogs to a family environment in preparation for being placed in suitable permanent homes. Avril, Johann and Candie were the last cats to be adopted in 2024. They got to be home for Christmas and to celebrate the new year with family. Here’s to many happy years together and, to many more adoptions in 2025. Cheers!

Resolution: “spend more time with family”. Reggie is walking into 2025 with determination… that he and his feline friends will find their forever homes. He has also resolved to “exercise more” (besides the wrestling and tag). Happy New Year!

Sending a big THANK YOU to the lovely folks at the Portage Hospital for choosing PAWS as the recipient for their staff 50/50! Congrats to the lucky winner who took home the other half of the pot!

Dream was about to introduce the new girls and then this happened… these beautiful cat beds arrived! Thank you, Tara Roberts – what a wonderful surprise! These are purrfect for cozy cat naps as visions of forever families dance in their heads. And welcome Noelle & Eve!

Echo & Reggie donned some Christmas spirit and welcomed a few visitors to the shelter this week. They’re also looking forward to engaging with the new lads - Lander, Legend & Benjamin. All of these merry gentlemen have the same Christmas wish… a loving home full of comfort and joy.

Buddy spent several months in the pound before finding a foster, huge thank you to his wonderful foster who helped this big sweet heart out ❤️

We like many rescues in Manitoba are struggling to find foster homes for dogs, consider signing up and helping a dog in need.
