If your dog is staring at something intently, there is a good chance they’re going to act on it within a few seconds (and you don’t want them to practice chasing or getting over excited by something) so instead find some way to abort! 🕊️
If they can look at it (in this case, the pigeons) and still be able to divide their attention between it and you - even if it’s as simple as eating a treat - then that’s OK! Let them be a dog 💚

With bear season here, and squirrels around yearly, I wanted to let you know that it is possible for you to help your dog react better around wildlife!
Sure, you can teach your dog to respond to commands such as ‘come’ or ‘look at you’. But if you can catch them IN the act (the second they see their prey of choice), and provide them with some alternative stimulating, high value game or reward, then with many repetitions, they will learn to look at you in response to seeing the prey. It takes a lot of work, but it is possible!
Ivy can look at the squirrel, and admire it from a safe and controlled distance, but then we chased rolling cheeseballs 🧀👏🏻
It’s a habit that has taken many repetitions, but instead of correcting your dogs behaviour, provide an alternative! 🐶
