2025 tentative gymkhana dates
May 11, 25, June 8, 22, July 6 Aug 10, 24, Sept 7, 21. Dates will be confirmed at our April 12th meeting.
What is to come-
June 7 Youth Gymkhana, and we will have another costume day. Looking forward to Friday Fun Nights where anything is possible for events, obstacles, and brushing up on skills you didn't know you had or needed. Thank you to our volunteers and planners.

Hey everyone. I hope everyone is having a good winter and getting through this cold snap.
I am really hoping that we will be able to start riding lessons again in around 12 weeks, which I know is still far away. With that being said I have been thinking about offering horsemanship lessons. This would be an 8 week group program that starts in March and would run on Saturday mornings. Each lesson would include a new horse topic, rider fitness to get us ready for spring and a few barn chores to learn what goes into the day to day of looking after a horse.
If this is something you would be interested in please let me know.

It was a long hard day today. Poor Dolly had to go to the vet to get her eye removed. She some how managed to poke her eye and get a corneal ulcer. After discussing with the vet we agreed that removing it was the best option for her. Luckily removing her eye should not hold her back and she will still make a great riding horse.
I am incredibly thankful to Murdoch veterinary service for getting us in so quickly and I am very grateful for incredibly helpful neighbors and family.
Dolly is now our most special horse because she is the first of our horses to go into and use the barn.

Thank you Salmon Valley Gymkhana Club for putting on another great year.
Congratulations to Addison and Kurtis for both coming 2nd with Zen for their age groups. Addison has worked incredibly hard this year and we are so happy to see it pay off.
We can't wait to see what next year brings.

As some of you know I had my worst horse accident with Dolly last year and then she got left on the back burner. After months of not even being able to catch her she now meets me at the gate. On Friday I decided to take her down to the arena for an obstacle course for some in hand work. Not only did she do great with it and not get overwhelmed, but she had no problem walking on the road with cars and trucks passing her.
Today I decided I would put the saddle on her back and a bit in her mouth for the first time in over a year and ground drive her. She didn't love the ropes being on her sides but she luckily remembers how to steer.
It's going to be a long road with Dolly, but there's no need to rush. I would prefer to take it slow and build confidence than rushing to get on her and go for another rodeo.
And yes I wear a helmet even to do ground work with green horses.

We had so much fun at the gymkhana today. A couple of my students, Addison and Amelia got to come with us and did such a great job. They made this instructor very proud.
Thank you Salmon Valley Gymkhana Club for providing a welcoming, inclusive and encouraging environment for this new generation to have fun and show off their skills.

Danny, Zen and Rye are very happy to be back on grass. This year we are planning to fence off a pasture so the horses will have around 10 acres to graze.

I have been searching high and low for a new lesson horse for this upcoming season and luckily i found one. This is Jasper a 16hh 19 year old ish Wildie. Jasper was previously a ranch horse, trail horse and a lesson horse. He is an incredibly sweet and gentle soul. I'll be riding him regularly for the next few weeks and he should be ready for some new riders soon. Watch for updates to see how he progresses.

I hate this time of year. Everything is wet and muddy and worst of all I can't use the big tractor to move bales into the horses' paddocks. For over a week we were taking hay out to the horses by hand, but no more. My inlaws gave us a little lawn tractor last year and Kurtis managed to get it back up and running. My life is now complete, or at least a little easier for now.
