Most people ask: what brand harness do you recommend?

Unfortunately it's not that simple. Dogs are different shapes and sizes, and each harness brand has their own morphology- some fit specific breeds and shapes incredibly well and terribly on other dogs. You DO need a harness designed for dog powered sports. And the fit is important. In this lesson I will teach you what harness qualities to look for so that you can tell if your harness is well-fitting and suitable for your sports of choice.

For the sports we are discussing in this class, you will be looking at harnesses designed for light, fast pulling sports. Weight-pulling harnesses are very different, and not what we are after here. Nor do we want to look at the harnesses designed for sulkies or carts.

Are you tired of the frequent or constant leash pulling when you are out on your walks with your canine companion?

Do you wish you could enjoy your walks without constantly having your arm stretched or je**ed as you get pulled in every which way?

If so, THIS is the class for you! For a total of only 90 minutes of your time, we will get you well on your way with the basic fundamentals needed to being able to enjoy a lifetime of polite loose leash walking with your dog with no pinch collar, no electric collar, or no no-pull harness.

Suitable for all ages and all breeds. Only $105 for 2-45 minute classes that will set you up with the needed skills to have a solid polite leashed walk! Whether you need to start from scratch or are in need of a refresher or even some more ideas to fine tune and improve your current leash skills, click on the class link and let's get started!

We do not believe in relying and depending on one given tool that must be used at all times to maintain the desired behavior of loose leash walking, especially when some very simple training techniques can get us the results we need and want for polite leash skills!

This class takes place outdoors and in REAL WORLD everyday environments as we design our classes to get you and your dog working on real life skills. We will begin in a lower distraction area and progressively increase the distractions. We work in all weather conditions (rain or shine) so be prepared to have rain gear, sunscreen, bug spray, gloves, hats, etc! If the weather is severe (eg air quality index issues) we will reschedule the class.

SUITABLE FOR: Puppies and dogs aged ~5 months and above. All breeds all sizes are always welcome! Out in the real world our dogs will see various dogs of various sizes and ages so we aim to ensure that our classes are in line with your Real Life training needs!

STUDENT TO INSTRUCTOR RATIO: 4 handlers/dogs to 1 Instructor.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Environmental Neutralization + Proper Socialization & REAL LIFE OBEDIENCE is the focus of all our Obedience Classes. We will practice a variety of dog obedience skills and exercises in an out-and-about setting and owners will have “homework” activities to work on between weekly classes so as to expedite learning, prevent learning decay, and help best solidify the exercises from the lessons. We promote respectful communication between dog and handler and as always, engagement and relationship building skills to enhance natural and active focus and attention to the handler! This class is also suitable for those who are considering doing the Canadian Kennel Club’s Canine Good Neighbor Test.

We will cover:

▪️Review of Context Specific Learning is and why this is critically important in your training

▪️Socialization Etiquette and Good Canine Manners when out and about (Humans & Dogs)

▪️Engagement and Relationship building for natural focus & attention

▪️Threshold/Impulse Control Skills including but not limited to:

▫️Entering/Exiting Vehicle (wait for release cue [command])

▫️Waiting at doors, gates, etc

▫️Waiting while handler has short conversation with a friendly passer-by

▫️Hold Sit/Down in the vicinity of increased distractions (other dogs, humans, etc)

With 125 to 300 MILLION olfactory receptors (depending on breed) in their noses (compared to humans who have approximately 6 million), canines have an amazing ability to detect so many scents through their amazing noses!

This course is an excellent way to provide a mentally stimulating activity for your dog while also facilitating relationship building and teamwork with your canine companion in the process. It is a well known fact that increased mental activities for dogs improves their mental health, is as tiring as physical activity (with that many receptors taking in so much information it’s not surprising!), and helps to also improve cognitive functioning. It also greatly helps to boost and build confidence while giving your dog a fun “job” to do!

THIS CLASS IS SUITABLE FOR: Dogs of ALL ages and breeds, including puppies who have completed their 2nd set of puppy vaccinations. This course is best suited for canines who have a good food drive level (like treats, enjoy working/training for food, are keen for their meals). As dogs will be working 1 at a time and/or not in close proximity to one another during their sessions, tracking classes are also well suited to dogs who may have some challenges/reactivity behaviors in working in closer proximity to other dogs. Please contact us if you are unsure of eligibility and we are happy to assist in any way we can!

Class Cost includes your tracking flag, a treat bag (Dehdrated beef liver or chicken or salmon), and a set of tracking articles!

We are opening ONE Power Hour Session on Sept 16 from 11:00-11:45! Only 4 spots available and only $35 for a full 45 minute session.

What is POWER HOUR and who is it suited for? 👉 Power Hour is perfect for anyone who is looking for assistance with focused training activities/exercises OR for those who want to come use the training field/space for some more independent, casual FUN time with their dog.

You will have the use of basic agility equipment such as jumps, tunnels, tire jump, Aframe, and weave poles for “fungility” time (must receive safety orientation on all equipment prior to using if new to agility type equipment), general confidence building stations, and we also are available to provide basic dog training assistance or more structured coaching for competitive and/or hobbyist obedience and/or dogsport venues such as CKC obedience/CKC Good Neighbor practice/Rally/IGP/PSA.

We also offer an easy, lightly wooded short walking trail for some on-leash sniff/exploring enrichment (Spring to Fall).

We had a beautiful early Fall evening to wrap up our weekday cohort of Loose Leash Walking, Urban Obedience, and Urban Puppy Kindergarten classes! Sorry we missed a few of you this evenings for pics!
