These two handsome dudes are with us for a sleepover. They settled in immediately, and find the idea of squirrels in the yard quite engrossing. Don’t think we’ll be seeing anything of the little critters while they are here, lol. Sam is the blonde guy - a PhD candidate on the ‘smart dog scale’. Nuggs is just a big ol’ 60-pound cuddler who was very interested in my baking activities this morning; had to put the oat cakes out of reach to cool :-)

Juniper had a big adventure at the beach this afternoon - she is fascinated by ANYTHING that moves, including the wavelets in the tide pools. Great way to cool off on a hot afternoon 🙂

Lacey has to be the most patient dog on the face of the earth. If you turn up the sound you will hear the squirrel in the tree above swearing at her. But Lacey just sits quietly (sometimes for hours) and waits for her opporunity to play chase along the top of the fence.

We went for a lovely walk this afternoon at the Little Qualicum River Hatchery. Graysea had a paddle in the river and managed to find three sticks on her big adventure❤️

Chase is so aptly named 🙂 He will chase pretty much anything that moves - bunny rabbits, birds, squirrels, leaves…. He is so much fun and such a pleasure to have around ❤️

Five years ago today we launched our Home Away From Home dog sitting service. Over the past half decade we have had the great pleasure of caring for dozens of dogs from many walks of life, from show dogs to rescues and everything in between. They have come in all shapes and sizes, all temperaments, all coats and colours. We have enjoyed their antics, their people and their stories. And, when some of them have crossed the Rainbow Bridge, we have grieved them. Our heartfelt thanks to the many folks who have entrusted us with the care of their loyal and loving companions. Your dogs - and you - help make our lives complete. ❤️

It has been, to say the least, a very different year for all of us. Cancelled travel plans for most of our clients meant our home was dogless for months on end. We occasionally had the joy of a dog in the house when someone had to make brief trips for medical appointments, but the non-stop rotation of our canine friends was pretty much non-existent during 2020. We are optimistic with the introduction of a Covid vaccine that things will eventually pick up in the New Year and that our home will once again be filled with the joy and companionship of the many lovely dogs that have graced our home over the past four years. Many thanks to everyone for entrusting your beloved dogs to our care. Stay safe, enjoy the holiday season as best you can, and hug those dogs for us. Onward to 2021 and, hopefully, a better year for all.

We have had the great pleasure for the past couple of days of having Victor, our one-eyed street urchin, here. He is such a sweet, happy boy who has obviously overcome his rough start in life as a feral dog on the steets of Mexico. Love this guy

Just when you start thinking things can’t get much worse, more bad news. Two of our treasured client dogs have passed away in the past two days. Daphne was a lovely Golden Retriever who lit up our days when she stayed with us. And Austen - sweet old Austen - 16-plus years old, still agile and full of life - lost to an aggressive cancer in a matter of days. May the shamrocks fall softly, sweethearts. You will be sorely missed.
