Scotia is coming into heat. Found the perfect stud with a working dog heritage. Thinking about making some Puppies. Anyone interested?

Facbook tells me that lots of people are visiting this page. Our plans for the time being are to breed either our Purbread Border Collie or our Great Pyrenees/Maremma cross over the next year. If you are interested in either please let us know.

We are also looking for potential studs on Vancouver Island. We happily accept recommendations. For Scotia, the Border Collie we are considering either another full Border Collie or possibly an Australian Shephard. For Luna, we want to stick to either Morema or Great Pyrenees.

Sometimes you hope beyond hope. The stethoscope doesn't lie. Luna is having a false pregnancy. All the physiology, hormones, appetite, and laziness of a real pregnancy without the puppies. We will try again next heat. Any and all information on farm puppies be they from Luna or our purebred Border Collie (Scotia) will be posted on this page.

Just gave Luna another once over. Finally seeing some changes to her physiology. Puppies may not be imminent but I'm thinking within 24hours. It might be a long night tonight.

Puppy watch continues. Luna is doing well. A little lazy and not eating all of her food but generally still her usual self. We are now in the window where puppies could arrive. Fingers crossed.

Welcome to Foot Forward Forest Farm Puppies.

This page is created to provide information and to promote open dialogue, answer questions, and to allow interested families to follow the lives of the new puppies. We will endeavor to keep this page updated as the puppies develop until they are ready to be adopted. Who knows, maybe it will develop into a community as the puppies grow and become full-fledged working dogs.

Meet Luna:

Luna is a 2-year-old 110lb Great Pyrenees/Maremma cross. We call her a Great Maremma. Luna's father was a purebred Maremma and her mother was a purebred Pyrenees. Both of her parents are currently working dogs on Quadra Island.

Luna has been raised around Goats, sheep, chickens, geese, ducks, kids of the humankind, and treats them all with great care. The puppies will be socialized on the farm with access to all of these animals as well as our purebred border collie. (puppies next year... but I digress)

On the farm, we have a lot of Wolf pressure and Luna has saved our animals from attack on more than one occasion. The animals on the farm have all learned the difference between her "hey I'm here now go away" bark and her "Wolf Wolf Wolf" bark and they act accordingly. She intelligently has never fallen into the wolf's trap of luring her into the forest where other wolves may be lying in wait.

We free-range all of our animals including our chickens. Since Luna has come of age, we have yet to lose a single animal to a raccoon, mink, wolf, or stray dog.

Luna is a loving calm good-natured dog that does serve as our doorbell whenever anyone comes to the farm and is happy to head out and patrol the forest on our 40-acre property whenever it is time to take the goats out for winter forage.

Meet Lobo:

Lobo, the dad, is a working dog in the Coombs area. I have only met Lobo one time but he was lovely. Lobo lives with his sister and together they are in charge of protecting a small herd of goats.

Lobo is, like luna, a Great Pyrenees/Maremma cross but with 1/8 Piranese Mastiff. that would make the puppies 1/2 Maremma, 7/16 Great Pyrenees, and 1/16 Piranese Mastiff. I would estimate Lobo's weight at about 135lbs.

Luna and Lobo were introduced to each other in Early April and Luna's expected due date is June 4th.

Please indicate your interest by either commenting or messaging this page. We will be taking deposits 1 week after the puppies arrive. The puppies will be vet checked and will have their 1st Vaccination by adoption date. Deposits will be 1/2 of the adoption price and will be refundable at the time another appropriate home is located. Puppies will be available after 8 weeks of age for $900.

If you wish to raise the puppy as a full-time LGD, please make sure we know in advance so that your puppy is not over-handled by humans.
