This black and cream dapple girl will most likely remain with us to fill mama Kahlua’s shoes one day! (Turbo x Kahlua)

I decided to give her her own post so you can all weigh in! And because I took 1 million pics of her and can’t pick just one…

I’ve been throwing around the name, Khloe, in honor of mama Kahlua and grandma Kiwi… but I love food names….and there’s not alot of “k” food names, it turns out (please do NOT suggest kumquat!)

And then there’s Denim and Indigo (Indy) because she is literally the shiniest silver blue color… and I love when names are super literal! (ps - shes not blue!)

So ya, if you’re still reading, let me know what you think we should name her…

And then if you’re feeling extra, see if you can formulate her registered name, with Prairiedox in the title… (for example: Prairiedox’s Blue Ain’t Your Color)

I can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Kahlua’s (Turbo) pups have begun to go home.
The others will be departing soon
Grabbed some sweet photos of the remaining pups today and thought I’d share

None are available at this time!

Would love some name suggestions for the black and cream dapple girl. Her mom is Kahlua, grandma is Kiwi… and go!

Please don’t shave your longhairs in the summer… their coats never come back the same! They don’t require more than their paw pads trimmed and a sanitary trim at most. Good explanation below ⬇️

With the weather warming up, I wanted to take a second to chat about Longhaired Dachshunds! I see so many people shaving them for the summer, with the intention of “keeping them cooler,” but not realizing they’re actually doing the opposite.

Longhaired Dachshunds are a double coated breed and as such, their undercoat helps to regulate their body temperature, both in the winter AND in the summer. As it warms up, they shed a lot of their undercoat, but what remains helps to hold air between the two coat layers and acts as a regulator for the body temperature. Their outer coat then helps to protect them from sunburn and insects/parasites.

Shaving them or having them clipped too short (into the undercoat), removes their natural ability to regulate body temperature and actually makes them HOTTER. Not only that but it ruins the coat and it will never grow back the same - hence why a lot of previously shaved/clipped longhairs look “downy” and “fuzzy” rather than having coats that lay nicely.

The only type of hair cutting needed for a longhair is trimming of their grinchy toes and a sanitary trim (think ge****ls), at most - some don’t even need this.

Titer testing is the one thing that the veterinary industry should do, but usually doesn't. I KNOW that titer testing saves lives, and prevents vaccine injuries (triggering of allergies, autoimmune disease, immune system dysregulation, a range of chronic diseases, up to and including death from things like Immune Mediated Haemolytic Anemia).

It's a simple blood test that measure the levels of antibodies in the blood. If your pet still has enough antibodies, revaccination does NOTHING but expose your pet to the risk of harm.

If your pets have adequate antibodies, then those antibodies interfere with the vaccine. So these so-called 'boosters' do nothing to increase your pet's level of protection a lot of the time.

WHY?

Because the core vaccines (C3 for dogs, F3 for cats) give a LONG-LASTING IMMUNITY of at least 5-7 years, and often a whole lot longer. Sometimes lifelong!

One problem is that a lot of vets send their titer tests out to external labs, which makes them VERY expensive. I use an in-house test kit. It makes it affordable. Any vet hospital can stock and use these kits.

So it's YOUR JOB to advocate for your pets and ask your vets to get the Biogal Vaccicheck in-house test kits in, so they can give you affordable titer testing, in-house.

If your vets are not open to this, just KEEP ON ASKING - the more that everyone who loves their pets asks their vets to make these tests affordable and accessible, the better!

I'm not anti-vax. They work. They protect from these deadly diseases. There is undeniable, robust, repeated evidence that proves this. I've seen too many dogs die from parvo to not know that vaccines can save lives. And yes, there are alternatives - message me if you want to know more about that!

The bottom line is that you should ALWAYS titer before revaccinating for the core (C3 + F3) vaccines. No ifs, no buts. I wish this was taught at vet schools, and an industry-wide standard!

Have you ever titer tested your dogs? What were the results? How long did their immunity last after vaccination? How has your vet responded to requests? What do they charge? Love to hear from you in the chat.

I help animals all over the world heal and be well + happy with holistic veterinary care, kind training, and energy healing. If you want me to help your pets, message me! Zoom and in person appts available.
