Steady Steed Project

Steady Steed Project The Steady Steed Project is a volunteer project of passion. We have an incredible passion for horses, and our goal is simple! I was self taught and enthusiastic!

We actively strive to RRR (rescue, retrain and rehome). My family history is not tied to horses. In generations past, no one in my family has owned a horse, so my mother is unsure where my infatuation began. She remembers when I was 2 and saw a horse for the first time, recalling an immediate attachment and potential obsession - well, the rest is history. Horses have been a driving force, and I've

always done what I must to keep them a part of my life. I was always that little girl begging for a horse for Christmas, waking up on that special day with hope to see a horse beside the tree. When there wasn't, my heart ached for weeks after. When I was younger, I used to beg my mother to take me to the nearby farm or stable daily. At age 9, when I was somewhat 'allowed' to venture off alone, I would frequent the local stables just down the road from our house - as often as possible close to 7 days a week! If I wasn’t home, you’d find me there. For hours I would sit on the mounting block watching people work their horses and ride. I offered my little muscles and physical labour for a horseback ride on any horse I could get my bottom on! Big, small, tall, I’d ride them all - I suppose I was fearless at that age: I am much more cautious now for sure. I’ve always been artistic, only drawing and painting horses. When I was 14, a local Trail Riding Establishment asked me to paint horses and scenery on the side of their guest house. I offered to do it in exchange for trail rides. This resulted in me frequenting the facility, helping out around the barn and with guests, and then starting work as a guide on tours. When I was 22 I finally purchased my first horse. Soaking up knowledge from anyone I could, watching professional training DVD’s and reading DIY training books, I then practiced with my horse as often as possible. I learned how to work with my horse teaching new exercises, both on the ground and under saddle. It’s not easy 'getting into' horses, and it can sometimes feel intimidating. The key is to learn at your pace in a no-pressure environment. With the right start, horses can be enjoyable and they can even change some aspects of your life. I'm always in Pursuit of the Steady Steed, to feel safe, confident and in control of my surroundings. Join me on my never ending journey to learn, gain knowledge and experience life with the incredible horse! EXPERIENCE
