Happy Hoof Inc.

Happy Hoof Inc. Natural Performance Barefoot Trimmer. Late in 2011 I was introduced to a lady named Birgitta Wilkenson (Success With Horses).

She showed me things that I didn't know about my horses feet. From there I did some research on my own, everything confirmed what she had told me. June 2012 I went to a 3 day clinic at Birgitta's to learn how to trim my own horses. Over the summer I trimmed our horses and a few horses for friends. Wanting to learn more I contacted Lisa Huhn to sign up for her Fast Track Course in Medicine Hat. Sp

ending 2 weeks with Lisa taught me so much more and helped me to refine my trimming skills. October 2013 I went to a 3 day ABC Hoof Trim Clinic in BC (All classroom) Where I learned more about the bar and how invasive it can be. July 2015 I took an Advanced ABC Hoof Trim Clinic w/ Cheryl Henderson in Rocky Mountain House Alberta, for 3 days. We worked on cadaver feet as well as live horses. July 2015 and September 2015 was the Cowboy Challenge Clinics. This was to help hone my skills as a horseperson and to challenge myself as well as my horse. I look forward to helping owners better understand the function of the horses hoof and helping horses regain true soundness. To learn more, check out:

Did you know that wild horse herds will gather together outside of breeding season? Or that there may be more than one stallion per herd?

Most bands have on average up to 6 mares. This photo is of multiple herds together. They join together for added protection from predators.
When you see more than one stallion in a small herd, one of them is the dominant stallion and the other(s) are there because it's safer for them with a herd than alone. They also assist in protecting the band from predators and alerting the herd when danger is close by.

It would be greatly appreciated if you share this with all of your equine friends! ;)

Welcome to our sneak peek of the online course on Equine Hoof Anatomy & Pathology! In this lesson, we will explore the intricate structures of the horse's hoof and the common issues that can arise. The hoof is a fascinating part of the horse's anatomy, providing support, traction, and protection. Understanding its composition is crucial for every horse owner, rider, and equine professional.

The equine hoof is comprised of several essential components, including the insensitive hoof capsule, the sensitive laminae, the frog, the sole, and the digital cushion. Each of these structures plays a vital role in maintaining the overall health and function of the hoof. For example, the insensitive hoof capsule is the hard outer layer that protects the internal structures, while the sensitive laminae provide blood flow and support to the hoof wall. By learning about these components in detail, you will gain a deeper appreciation for the complexity of the hoof and how to properly care for it.

Throughout this course, we will also delve into common hoof pathologies such as laminitis, thrush, white line disease, and navicular syndrome. These issues can significantly impact a horse's soundness and quality of life if left untreated. By recognizing the signs and symptoms of these conditions early on, you can work proactively with your veterinarian and farrier to prevent further complications. Ultimately, our goal is to empower you with the knowledge and skills needed to support your horse's hoof health and overall well-being. We hope you enjoy this sneak peek and consider enrolling in the full course to deepen your understanding further!

When I trim, I kneel down for the nipping and the filing. I have heard from many people that this is dangerous and I should not do that. I have yet to be kicked, while in that position.
I find that most horses are more comfortable doing it this way than they are with me, lifting their legs higher than is comfortable for them, or twisting their shoulders out to accommodate me.
This is far easier on my back, than putting their feet between my legs.
I am also cautious and do not work on horses that I don’t trust.
For those that, give me a little bit of grief, but are not mean about it. This is my solution.
