We have a couple of spots available in our upcoming Trim/Pathology clinic on April 6 & 7.
Have you ever wondered why your horse has a choppy walk or trot?
Why the toes are squared off, even though they were just rimmed not long ago?
Why your horses feet stink, when being picked out?
What it means when your horse gets puffy around the eyes?
We will answer all of these questions and so much more.
This is theory, as well as hands on. Where you learn about not only the function of the hoof, but how to be pro-active with pathologies, like Laminitis and Thrush. We will discuss other issues, such as contraction and toe first landings.
Learn… the differences in trims and what it means to the horses.
How to differentiate a good trim from a not so good trim.
How to improve your horses movement.

Does your horse snow pack?
If only I could really trim this fast! lol
I will be out of the service area for the next six days. I will get back to anybody that sends me a message on September 25 or later.
Food For Thought:
When we think of wild horses, we romanticize then running free or grazing in mountain meadows. We envision the foals romping about playing and getting stronger. And we do see that quite often on our trips out to the west country.
What we don't normally see, is the times that they are hunted by predators or fighting with one another (mainly the stallions).
We want to believe that they have a great life, without concerns, for the most part.
Yet the reality of it is that they are chased and taken down often by bears, cougars, wolves, lynx and other predators, not to mention the fights between rival stallions.
The videos and photos attached are of a stallion that I have been following for over 10 years. He has had a hard life to say the least.
the scars on his back end are from going through a wire fence at a young age (approximately as a two year old). He hung around outfitter camps until he was healed as there are less predators in places occupied by humans.
Once he healed enough he moved to a less populated area and managed to gather few mares of his own and we saw him often for the next 8 years on our trail rides.
About 2 years ago he vanished and no one had seen him. We all thought he had perished.
Last weekend I was fortunate enough to not only see him, but get videos and photos. He is looking his age and limping a bit on the front end. If you look closely at his back end he is having issues there as well.
His body tells a story of the life he has lead and that it has not been an easy one.
Many of the wild horses we see are younger and look to be in great shape, yet I would wager that they have not had it as easy as we think.
This year has been a bad year for foals, as there are quite a few bears and many of the young stock have not made it. this is the way of nature and the predators must eat as well. I don't like to think of them being taken down, though I do understand that it is survival of the fittest.

As requested an update on Rowdie...
It was bandage removal day. His eye patch was held on by 4 sutures that I needed to cut.
So far everything looks good.
The stitches come out in 10 days.
When your horse trusts you, you should be able to medicate them at liberty.
I'm very fortunate to have that trust with Rowdie, we have worked hard to build our bond and it has payed off.
He had his eye removed on March 16th and needs meds twice a day. He doesn't like it, but tolerates it. Today we started doing Red Light Therapy and he is a trooper.
No halter or treats required!
