Happy Canada Day everyone! I've spent a lot of time this year refocusing on what is important to me, and I am thankful to live in a country where I have the safety and relative stability to be able to do so! When I feel like I'm not making progress I can struggle to remember that even the smallest things we do can make a huge difference.
Keeping animals that people often say are pointless because they can't be handled has given me a unique opportunity in this regard. It shows me that even an animal who has never had a moment to relax or feel warm and safe can learn to accept my help, sleep in the open, eat readily, and truly thrive. That's a tangible difference that I am incredibly proud and honored to make in their lives.
This Canada Day, it feels especially important to me to reflect on how lucky I am to be able to pursue my passion and make a positive impact, even if only for a few animals and some followers online.
Happy Canada Day.

Can't seem to get photo uploading to work on this account these days, but we are moving once again to a bigger more suitable space and will be doing some tank building videos or a livestream, depending on what you guys would rather see! Excited to get things rolling and have everyone in new setups.
Happy Monday!

Scarbutt (Our resident Oman Desert Lacerta) treating himself to some Repashy "Grub Pie"
Keeping species like Grandis/ Giant Day Geckos and Mourning Geckos means we need to offer them these powdered supplements as well as a steady supply of varied insects, and boy do they have an appetite some days!
Oman Lacertas are not often seen in captivity these days, so I like to offer him a variety of things to see what he likes and keep him interested. VERY excited to see if we can get him paired up this year.

Today is the start of the Chinese Year of the Wood Snake! Folks have been cleaning house and getting ready for the energy shift of the new year, and now they will celebrate for 15 days. They also recommend that in order to keep good fortune, you shouldn't cut your hair, clean, wash clothes, or do chores on New Years Day, or you are inviting bad luck in! (And who doesn't love a day to rest?)

Snakes in Chinese culture (while there is still some stigma) are often called "little dragons" in Chinese folklore and their shed skin, called the "Dragon’s Coat," symbolizes renewal, good fortune, and transformation. Another well known story, The Legend Of The White Snake, is a centuries long love story featuring a white snake turned woman who falls in love with a human man.

The Snakes influence brings transformation, personal growth, and wisdom.
The Wood elements influence adds flexibility and renewal.
And last but not least the Wood Snake specifically is said to bring perserverance, intelligence, and strategy!

What do you have planned this year?

Happy New Year everyone!
We took a trip to the big city yesterday to get the last of our (First ever!) litter of Kenyan Sand Boas to their new homes, and we had noticed a little someone for sale a few days before. So, seeing as we already have our own "Geico Gecko" who is confirmed female, we figured why not take this little male and see if they get along when he's a bit older? Hopefully he will forgive us for the long drive after a nice quiet quarantine period and some tasty fruit paste...
Welcome "Goober" to the menagerie!

This little male Kenyan Sand Boa (Older photo, he is on hold) wants you to know his 2 sisters and 1 brother are up for grabs once more! We all know how the holidays can be, and so these 3 babies are available again locally.
Normal Het. Paradox Albino, eating frozen thawed fuzzy mice, all very sweet and growing like weeds! This is a species that stays on the smaller side and really do make amazing starter reptiles.

Bad news folks! Both our male Chinese mantises (Tenodera sinensis) passed away before they got a chance to lock with our resident female. So unless "Sweet boy" managed to do his business in the night before he passed, it looks like no mantis ootheca's for next spring.
Sorry everyone! I had some weird luck with this group, I kept 10 for myself and only 3 made it to that final molt but the timing for each was so varied.
Just goes to show, nature doesn't always follow the rules!

We've been busy raising babies, trying to pair mantises, and packing for a move but man oh man have you guys been supportive! We have 9 baby sand boas and of those I've found nice homes for all my ready to go boys, have a few of the girls with some interest, and have gotten the stubborn boy eating F/T!
Thankful for small wins these days. And thankful for all of you guys who message with questions and like my posts. Happy Monday everyone!

So because of the location of Lock, Shock, and Barrels eggs, (My Mourning gecko trio, Lepidodactylus lugubris) I was able to use my phone's flashlight to "Candle" them last week and see that our first egg that was laid had gone dark and the air pocket was very visible. So we waited with bated breath..... and were surprised today by our first in house produced Mourning Gecko! This baby girl has been separated and set up in her own little 32 ounce deli cup after a brief trip in a sauce cup while my heart skipped a few beats.

What a wonderful Wednesday surprise!
