Summit out for a walk 🤩 His leash skills have come a very long way!
Dayzie and Sharky practicing their “wait” command. This one is super hard for Dayzie, staying still is hard for Dayzie 🤣 But she is definitely coming along!
Some leftover video of Echo, Daisy working on her recall and Leave it - and the IK9 dogs having a blast 🤩
🔥 This little guy is Pisco - a little terrier puppy with a BIG personality. I do regular online sessions with Pisco and his mom, Diane. We started when he was a little puppy, and over the last few months, we have seen him become such an amazing young dog.
As part of his training, Pisco is being conditioned to accept a muzzle. While he has no need for one regularly, should there be an emergency, or the need for this type of restraint for public access, Pisco will be ready. He will see the tool as one of safety, something to help him relax.
As you can see, Diane has done a wonderful job with his conditioning 👏👏👏 He even selected “his” muzzle from the pile 🤣🥰
Great job team 🥳
Daisy working on her “recall” skills - would say we are ready for more challenge 😉🥰
Dayzie has been mastering her recall - looks like she’s ready for more challenge 😉👏
Grooming has been a hot topic here these last few weeks 🔥 I’ve received so many calls for help in this area! I am working on a special online delivery for a grooming conditioning workshop - please stay tuned ❤️
👉 In this video: Echo and Daisy getting us started with some public access and bike/trail skills.
🔥 Freak Show - Grooming: This is a correctly conditioned puppy. She is able to be handled, nails clipped and dremeled, and then an exam. She is not just tolerating this, she is relaxed and enjoying the pampering. If we start when they are puppies (at 4 weeks with their breeder ideally), they will have such an easy time with this in their new homes. Otherwise, as soon as I have trust with my new puppy (3-7 days after coming home), I start this conditioning.
* The handling conditioned here translates over to all other handling. Making vet visits, bathing, blow drying etc all trauma-free events.
🔥 Sharknado: Always the SUPERSTAR 🤩 This is an adult dog who is done conditioning. She has been able to have her nails done exactly like this, since she was 9 months old. So needless to say, clipping her nails is a breeze!
However, it was not always like this. Sharknado is VERY sensitive to touch genetically. She used to shy away from handling, even when it was gentle. Her feet are very sensitive. She did not like any physical restraint and would become so overwhelmed, she would either attempt to flee from me or start jumping all over me in excitement.
It took time to create our overall trust, and time to develop her bravery in this task. It should not take more than 12 weeks start to finish to do this, so if you and your dog have been trying without success for longer than that, you may just need the right info 🙂
🔥Grooming Re-Conditioning🔥
I love this part!
When Echo first came to CanineSidekicks he did not trust handling, grooming or nails. He could not be groomed at all without a massive fight of growling, attempts to flee and rolling on the ground like an anaconda! He was weary and selective with “snuggles”.
Initial sessions required a muzzle, slip lead and ecollar to maintain our communication. Now, just his slip lead helps remind him to practice his manners!
Look at this kid 👀
👏👏👏
Good job big boy! We knew you could do it ❤️
Though she is small, she is mighty 💪
Great job being brave Dayzie ❤️
Training “frees” our dogs 🐕
The lives they get to have because of our relationship and their training is sometimes indescribable. When someone asks “How are you able to do that with all of those dogs?”, the answer is always very simple.
Featuring Echo, Blu and Dayzie with help from Pepper, Big Tasty, Freak Show and Sharknado (even a quick cameo for our buddy Whiskey). Great job team 👏
** it’s a long one 🤷🏻♀️
