Fosters on Friday - Rocket!!
🐶FOSTERS ON FRIDAY!🐶
By far the most important part of a rescue organization are the fosters that take in the animals.
No matter how far gone, how behavioural, how smelly or how sick they may be, our fosters will welcome them with open arms into their homes - they will care for them, love them, train them and show them what it's like to be a part of a family.
It's because of the foster homes that we can put together a bio or a spotlight and can tell you everything you might need to know - the good, the bad, the absolutely adorable and the super quirky.
And it's 100% because of these fosters, that your new family member comes to you confident, well rounded and somewhat trained!
Leash training a puppy is sometimes super frustrating...but when you have a doggo like Rocket - it's a piece of cake! Rocket's well on his way to having this whole leash thing under control...next on the list? Sleeping through the night!

Adopt Peanut!
🐶ADOPT PEANUT!🐶
Peanut is a 25 pound, 2 year old Papillon who was surrendered due to his owner being sick. She couldn't take care of Peanut and his sister anymore, and asked us to find him the very best home!
Peanut is a happy go lucky guy who is trained, and was loved for his entire life. We love stories like this because we aren't looking for a "next" chapter, so much as an extension of the best life he could ever live!
He absolutely loves life, has lots of energy, is good with dogs (though, the calmer, the better - especially if they are big) and kids.
What can we say? He's just a really great dog and we don't expect him to last long before the perfect someone snatches him up!
If you'd like to meet this sweet gentleman, please fill out an adoption application and we'll be in touch!

Do you know how many of our rescue kittens come in as feral? It's more than half! But we can thank our feral fosters for taking the time, being patient and slowly turning these wild cats into the sweet, gentle, family cats that you adopt!
For real - Benny here? Was FERAL two weeks ago - AKA, you couldn't touch him without thick leather gloves, and playing with a feather toy? NO WAY! Benny, and his sister Joon (the cute tortie in the video!) will be ready to adopt NEXT WEEK! If you're interested, please message us!

When we say a puppy is good with other dogs, we mean it! 90% of our fosters have dogs of their own, and those beloved dogs help raise the puppies along with the humans! Case in point - an alumni of the rescue process, Prince, who belongs to our foster, Evelin, is helping Spritzer and Lemonade learn how to play! He'll teach them the cues they need to know when things get a little too rough, and he'll show them how to be the best dog ever!
Spritzer and Lemonade aren't quite ready for adoption yet - but those sweet little chonky butts will be on the page soon!

Small Breed Alert!
🐶Small Breed Alert!🐶
We have two gorgeous small breeds available for adoption this week!
Both came into care - not because they weren't loved, but perhaps, because they were loved so much, their original owners knew they had to make the hardest decision.
Peppie is a 7 year old Havanese, who is looking to live out her adult years in peace and quiet. Used to a retired couple, this girl would thrive with an older couple - one who would be happy with a constant companion who just wants to go along for the ride.
Gus, on the other hand, is still just a shih-tzu puppy, and is going to need some structure and patience from his owner while he learns that people are good, that other dogs aren't to be barked at, and that cats are lots of fun! He bonds hard and fast to his special person, but he uses them as his confidence. His perfect new owner, will teach him that he has all the confidence he needs and that the world isn't a scary place!
Both pups are up to date on shots, deworming, microchip and neuter/spay.
If you'd like to meet either of these two, please fill out an adoption application and we will be in touch!

Mama Char and her babies are resting comfortably in the home of their fosters Krista and Andrew. And if she ever needs help, her people are there to help - thanks to their 24 hour watch on the little furfamily.
After a few days of an upset stomach and obvious nervousness, Mama Char and her babies are finally resting, happy, and content in their temporary home.

Adopt Dozer!
🐶Adopt Dozer!🐶
Is there anything better than a happy, playful, energetic puppy having the time of her life!?
Sweet Dozer had the opportunity this weekend to try lots of new things! And not only did she LOVE them all, but she did them all without batting an eye!
She absolutely loved splashing in the water, made friends with all the doggos she met and was an equal opportunist with all the strangers on the beach (aka, she gave everyone an equal opportunity to give her pets and lovin's!)
Dozer is one of the last of the Iron Cross Oilfield Contracting litter and is growing up to be a fun and confident little girl. She absolutely loves people of all ages (she LOVES kids!) she does well with cats and kittens, and hasn't met a dog she hasn't liked.
She is super food motivated and eager to please, which means she will be easy to train! Lucky for you, she's well on her way to knowing all her basics and is crate trained. At four months old, she is still working on the potty training thing, but is about 90% there - most of her accidents, not entirely her fault, but us not watching for her cues.
Dozer currently weighs 22 pounds and is a beautiful brindle bully mix. She has a lovely temperament and would do great as an adventure companion or as a family pet!
She is up to date on vaccinations, deworming, microchip and still eligible for the delayed spay program.
If you'd like to meet Dozer, please fill out an adoption application and we will get in touch! Have more questions or want to know more about her? Message us and we'd love to brag about this amazing girl!!!

Fosters on Friday - Knuckles!
🐶FOSTERS ON FRIDAY!🐶

#Adoptable Knuckles takes his job of protecting his foster mama, Coralie, very seriously...especially against the extremely dangerous Musca Domestica. (A house fly. It's just a house fly!) Need an experienced fly hunter??? Knuckles is your guy!
Knuckles has been in care for months. He was one of the first puppies we brought in from a target community when we became New Chapter, and for some reason, he hasn't had any interest.
Knuckles is a confident boy who loves his people fiercely, likes to play with other dogs and likes cats too! (Cat needs to be extremely dog savvy. Knuckles likes to play, but doesn't realize that a cat is NOT a dog, and is a little more fragile.) He's good with people of all ages - including kids. He can have a touch of separation anxiety, but we can't really blame him...he's been in foster care since January and has been bounced from house to house to house. (Not his fault...just how it goes when doggos are in care for a long time and easily managed as soon as he realizes that he's "home" and you'll always come back!)
If you'd like to meet the Fly Hunter, take a trek down to Carstairs tomorrow and see him at Champion Ford!

Does your pup wear a tag?!
🐶Does your pup wear a tag!?🐶
We are so excited to be working with As You Wish Custom Designs from Prince George, BC!
Owner and artist, Carol, handstamps each and every tag, and generously offered to donate $2.00 from every one sold through our link to our little rescue!
These tags are unique and one of a kind, but more importantly - hand stamping creates a deeper impression than the laser engraved ones you buy at the pet store, and the stainless steel tags won't bend or break! (For the people with high energy dogs...well...#IYKYK~)
To be noticed by such talent all the way in BC has us feeling pretty special - and we're positive your furbaby will feel extra special with one of these gorgeous tags!

#Adoptable Kiva has been in care for months. She found a forever home once, but due to some expensive stomach issues, her family couldn't keep her. Since then, her tummy issues have been resolved and she's in great health!
Starting out as a very shy dog with confidence issues, her foster, Krista has been working so hard to show Kiva that life is fantastic - no matter where she is or who she is with.
During events, Kiva doesn't always show very well - but it's little glimpses into her "private" life in foster that shows just how happy, goofy and confident she is!

Numbers….it’s all about the numbers.
🐾171 animal in care
🐱60 fully vetted cats/kittens on the adoption floor
🐈⬛ 18 cat/kitten adoptions in may-42 intakes
🐶 25 puppies ready for families
🐕 25 adult dogs hoping for a second chance
🐩 20 dog/puppy adoptions in may-24 intakes
💰 Over $20,000 in vet bills in May
👫37 active foster families caring for 97 animals(the rest are living in the shelter)
👀 3300 Facebook followers
As adoption trickle and intake requests pour, we sit and stare at our screens trying to figure out what to do. How do we continue to tread water and keep the liferaft full of orphan pets afloat? Where do we find the money? How do we create the space? Most importantly, how do we engage our community and get the eyes on these animals that are so desperately in need of homes?
When we have a litter of small breed puppies receiving next to no interest, it makes our stomachs clench in fear….what hope do our amazing large breed adult dogs have if even our small breed babies are struggling to find homes? You can tell us adoption fees are too high, but how do we pay the vet bills otherwise? You can tell us adoption needs to be more accessible….but the lower our standards the harder it is to ensure suitable matches for our rescue pets AND the adopters. You can tell us we should allow walk-in adopters, but who is going to pay the staff salaries required to make that possible? You can tell us spay/neuter needs to be more affordable and it’s the vets fault that people can’t afford it…but they have costs to cover and businesses to keep running so our furry friends have medical professionals to care for them.
Our amazing volunteers are stretched thin, committing to as many community events as we can manage to get more eyes on our adoptables. We are posting as often as we can in hopes that we will get even one application or inquiry-but day after day our reach numbers are low and interest in our adoptables is even lower.
