Sweet Ash won't be the first to come see you when you kneel down close at the Xpen. Her brothers and sisters will rush toward you, bums wiggling, tongues lolling - ready to give puppy kisses and snuggles.
But Ash will stay behind the pack - strength in numbers - she'll let them feel you out before she even looks at you.
Dogs are like people, in the way that they all have different personalities. There will always be the pup who wants to be the centre of attention. There will be the sassy and spunky little one who will stand up to the big dogs and fight dirty.
And then there will be dogs like Ash - just a little bit timid.
But please, don't let that deter you from kneeling by the Xpen for just a few minutes longer this Saturday at the Market with Gull Lake Honey (at the Lincoln Hall!) Give her the moment she needs to look you in the eye - to take a sniff, and to finally come over. Because what might just look like a tiny step for you - might be a giant leap for her.
And trust us - that giant leap - if you pick her - will be the best thing for you - and her. Once she's comfortable - she loves to play, and snuggle, and her wiggle bum shakes her whole body when she's happy or excited.
She loves cats and will play with them like they are the best of friends. She is good with other dogs and kids as well and would make the absolute best family member...but only if you're willing to look past her shy tiny step...and be ready for her giant leap.
We'd love to see this girl find her forever home before Christmas - so take that chance will you?

Chip and Boo have been in care much too long...
Chip came from @Tsintah Siberian Husky Rescue and Pet Food Bank Society in the Spring. He was there for months...and has been at Next Chapter for months. At only 1.5 years old, he's spent almost 3/4 of his life in shelter. Not fair to any creature - especially one has carefree and fun as him.
Boo was born in care on December 6th of LAST YEAR. She was originally Kale from the Garden Veggies litter - one of the first Next Chapter litters. She spent a few months in a home, but was surrendered in the early fall, as the family had an emergency and couldn't keep her. Like Chip, she has spent the majority of her short life in the shelter - no world for a growing, energetic puppy. We'd love for her to go home before her first birthday.
Both these dogs deserve a home. Both these dogs deserve families. Both these dogs deserve a Next Chapter.

🐶And just like that, these seven babies are eating wet food!🐶
Mama Cindy Lou has been amazing with her new babies - she protects them as if they are her very own! (You can hear her in the background, saying WHERE ARE MY BABIES!?)
But with six additional mouths to feed (seven including Grinch!) , and the babies all turning about 4 weeks, we thought it was time to try and wean them - and make it a little easier for Cindy Lou.
And MAAAAN, do they love it! They ate it, they flung it around, they swam in it, and then...finally...they fell asleep in it. (And got baths once they woke up!)
But with these seven on wet food, we are running out quickly - and the one case of 12 cans (Science Diet) we have left is super chunky...and a little hard for these babies to eat. (Not so hard for them to fling around and swim in though...🤪)

FOSTERS ON FRIDAY!
By far the most important part of a rescue organization are the fosters that take in the animals.
No matter how far gone, how behavioural, how smelly or how sick they may be, our fosters will welcome them with open arms into their homes - they will care for them, love them, train them and show them what it's like to be a part of a family.
It's because of the foster homes that we can put together a bio or a spotlight and can tell you everything you might need to know - the good, the bad, the absolutely adorable and the super quirky.
And it's 100% because of these fosters, that your new family member comes to you confident, well rounded and somewhat trained!
#Adoptable Ghost has come a loooong way since coming into care at the beginning of October. Once shy of everyone and everything, we know he wouldn't be able to handle his little foster brother Nutmeg. But now? Just look at him!
There is nothing better than seeing a foster dog start to come out of their shell...and there is nothing CUTER than two pups snuggling together, amiright!?

With 83 kittens in care right now, it should surprise us, but here we are, with a lot of mouths to feed - and no food to feed them with!
We hate to keep asking for donations, but the money we will have to spend on kitten kibble, could be going to other things - like dewormers and vaccinations for the 10 puppies that came into care over the past two weeks...
Or to spay and neuter the last of the chihuahua's that we brought in back in August...

Snow Doggo JOY!
❄Were you ready for the snow? ❄
While we can't say we're happy about it - we sure are happy for the doggo's in our care who LOVE it! Including Joy, the spunky, playful, super energetic and ADOPTABLE doodle!
She's been having the time of her life with her Doodle Extraordinaire fosters, Krista and Aaron (and, we're pretty sure neither of them know how they became the "Doodle" experts, but they are our go to for this truly dynamic and mind boggling "breed". 😂 We appreciate them so much for always having their doors open to fosters!)
Joy was let out to potty and OMG, there was ALL THIS WHITE STUFF ON THE GROUND! And it was AMAZING!
