This is a snippet of when health testing can be complete.
Hips and Elbows evaluated by the OFA automatically post public results for anything considered normal (normal elbows/fair hips/good hips/excellent hips).
For Staffords, OFA has the following as required for CHIC. Evaluations performed by OFA automatically get posted to the public domain (normal) unless the owner agrees to have abnormal results public as well. People do not have to send in results to OFA that were performed outside of OFA ie: CAER eyes, BUT they will still have proof of results from the ophthalmologist. Always have the confidence to ask for proof of health testing that one claims they perform:
Hip Dysplasia - One of the following:
OFA Radiographic Hip Evaluation
PennHIP Evaluation. Results registered with OFA.
Elbow Dysplasia - OFA Radiographic Elbow Evaluation
ACVO Eye Exam (CAER) - Eye Examination once 12 months old by an ophthalmologist
L2HGA DNA Test - DNA based L2HGA test from an approved laboratory
Hereditary Cataracts DNA Test - DNA based cataract test from an approved lab
While a Cardiac Evaluation by a cardiologist is considered optional, I personally think it is an important piece of information for a stafford.
Did you know? Dogs must be 24 months or older for OFA Hip and Elbow certification, and 12 months or older for Cardiac, Patellas, and Thyroid certification. There is no age minimum for eye certification, nor for DNA, since DNA does not change as the dog ages.
The OFA also does Preliminary evaluations on hips and elbows before 24 months of age. However, they will need to be re-evaluated again for a final certification once the dog reaches 24 months.
