Entries opened yesterday for our Sept 20 - 22, 2024 SDDA trial. There is still room on Sunday as well as Friday. If you haven't sent your entries in, get them in as soon as you can!

We are happy to announce new SDDA Judge and teammate Ashley Horan will be cheering for us as we try to find her hides!

We are so happy to announce we have 2 scenting seminars coming up! Perfect timing right before our May 3-5 scent trial!

Ashley Horan, soon to be an SDDA judge, will be coming to impart her wisdom for us!

The AM Started/Advanced seminar focuses on those just out of classes, new to trialing, or wanting to polish up some skills for trialing. Priority for working spots will be give to those already trialing.

The PM All Level Handling seminar focuses on the human end of the leash! This will be valuable to every handler, regardless of level. Brush on your skills to be the best handler you can be for your dog!

Working spots limited to 8 dogs. Dogs MUST be kenneled (quietly) either in the space or in your vehicle. Unlimited auditing spots (bring your own chair).

Registration opens March 30th 9am.

Punch Passes $100 for 10 classes

For those who are competing or competition ready. Our working group runs on Sundays from approx 1:30pm - 5:00pm. It is broken into 2 groups Start/Advanced and Excellent/Elite. This is a drop in group, you are not required to make every Sunday. Each dog will get 2 searches per class. Classes are as follows:

Dec 31 - Aerial/Distance
Jan 7 - Speed/Team
Jan 14 - no class
Jan 21 - All games
Jan 28 - no class
Feb 4 - Container
Feb 11 - Interior
Feb 18 - Container
Feb 25 - Interior
Mar 3 - Container
Mar 10 - Exterior
Mar 17 - Exterior

**classes are subject to change on short notice**

Punch Passes do not expire and you can use more than one dog for one card. I keep track of your punches and will let you know when you are nearing the 10 punches. Once a punch is purchased you will be added to the group chat where I will ask for who is coming each week and make a run order.

If you would like to join our working group and purchase a punch pass please email [email protected] and I can set you up. There is no limit to our working group, the more the merrier, but also the more the longer group will be. Dogs will be kenneled in your vehicles.

🟣🟡2024 Winter Class🟡🟣

Foundations:
The dates are Feb 4, 11, 18, 25, March 3, 10.
$120 for 6 weeks
5:45pm - 6:45pm

In this class you will begin to learn and build solid foundations for your scent detection dogs. Commitment to odor, odor recognition, basic searches, and beginnings of alerting behaviors. You will be introduced to at least 2 of the 3 SDDA odors, and will begin to learn to ignore proofing items and distractors. Dogs in this class will work as a group and 1 at a time depending on what we are working on. Dogs MUST be kenneled when we are working one dog at a time or in small groups so you will be required to bring a kennel to class.

Scent kits can be purchased for at home practicing at a cost of $30 for a complete SDDA scent kit.

Please email [email protected] to register. Classes fill quickly so you may be waitlisted. Depending on interest a 2nd class may be offered from 7pm - 8pm. Confirmations of enrollment will be sent by Jan 15th, 2024.

This week's working group focussed on container searches. I found our excellent search particularly interesting. During our walkthrough most of our handlers commented how the search was "4 clusters of 4 and a random container".

What was interesting was most of the handlers wanted to search it like that, clearing a section of 4 then moving on, while most of the dogs wanted to search it in rows.

It was a neat discussion to have afterwards with the handlers about how the dog wanted to search it. I think it was eye opening on how to view containers and how important walkthroughs are EVEN IN CONTAINERS.

I know I will look at a variety of ways to do a search now and take into consideration how my dog searches.

How would you normally tackle this search? Have you ever thought about this type of set up in rows?

Our next at home challenge is ready to go! This challenge runs from Dec 1st, 2023 to Jan 15th, 2024. Roll the dice and move your game piece along the board to land on a challenge space....but beware there are some consequence spaces in there as well!

After registering, you will get a confirmation email then payment can be sent. Nov 30th you will be emailed the game board and instructions and added to a private group for participants! When the challenge ends you will get a certificate and a prize mailed to you for each dog you play with.

Cost is $40 per team. Each additional dog (with the same handler) is $15.

Things are getting pretty exciting here at HD headquarters. We have some exciting things coming up!

- Another Winter Month Challenge is being worked on - "It's all Fun and Games"
- Christmas/New Year Holiday Escape Room being planned
- working on lesson plans and programs for classes in Feb
- Finalizing details on 2 trials next year - we have a new venue!

We are so excited we couldn't wait to share some details! More details on things will be coming soon!

Spooktacular Scents Glow in the Dark Maze was so much fun! All the handlers really had to trust their dogs and you all did so well! Thanks to everyone for coming out and playing!

The equipment:
25 expens, 300+ Glow in the dark stickers, objects and props, 80 garbage bags and 400 glowsticks.

Congratulations to Michell, Tonic and Groovy for winning the costume contest! And congrats to all our Maze participants.

Join HD - Scent Detection's Spooktacular Scents Glow in the Dark Maze Halloween Challenge here in Regina on October 28th at 7pm.

The maze will be lit by glow sticks, glow stickers, and various glow in the dark objects throughout the space. When you arrive at a crossroad your dog will sniff 2 objects, correctly identifying the one with scent will advance you through the maze while incorrect scents will lead you to a dead end and you must go back.

Scents used will be Wintergreen and Pine. There will also be some distractors. There will be no walkthrough. While the maze will be in the dark, the space will have enough light that it won't be dangerous for you or your dog to navigate.

Top 3 times will win prizes and every dog receives a treat bag.

Entries are open now and close Oct 24th at 5pm. To register please email [email protected]. Cost is $25 per dog team and yes multiple dog teams are allowed.

I was honored to have this passed on to me and to join the Cheermeister Committee ❤️

Coral added the bowtie to the glamorous outfit.

This award meant alot to me. There was a time where positivity, encouragement, and joy for other or myself wasn't really a thing that I found value in and would rather look at what I didn't do or couldn't do over all the things I did do or could do.

Who knew a silly little costume and some clapping could warm the little fuzzies in my heart so much❤️
