Thank you for taking some lovely pics today of the veggie subscription boxes! 🫶

We had some lovely add ons to offer like local urban honey and farm fresh chicken eggs🤠 There is also a lovely bunch of flowers in there because yes, we do flowers too 😻

It’s been a slow and steady start to our veggie season, but we just gotta stay positive and believe that tomatoes and cucumbers are on the way... 👽

Our café bunches will be available on a weekly basis, starting on Thursday or Friday each week. We’ll let you know on here when they get dropped off 📆

We only dropped a few off today, and Pause will be closing on Saturday for some much deserved rest 💅🏼so stop by soon if you’d like to scoop one!

Our weekly & bi-weekly bouquets and harvest boxes went out yesterday 🛍️

This week was full of herbs and garlic scapes 🧄and our flowers are starting to pop now too 🌼

With the funky growing season we’re having, we decided to push our Harvest Boxes out a couple of weeks to better fit our crops, and bouquets will continue as planned for the next 6 weeks 📆

We tried potting up some Strawflower into recycled coffee cups ☕️from our pals and they worked great!

There’s a lot of plastic used in the world of seedlings, so this is a fun alternative to get another use out of single-use stuff and avoid some plastic ♻️

We’ve been busy planting this week and are in the home stretch 👩‍🌾

We’re experimenting with some companion planted cucumbers 🥒and pole beans, and taking preventative slug measures with hot peppers, onions, cilantro, and egg shells (even though we heard it doesn’t work, we have to throw everything we can at those slimy guys 🐌)

1/2 of us also made a radio appearance on CBC’s Blue Sky this week! 📻Find the episode about Alternatives to Lawns on their website. ⭐️ Note that there was an error at the end of this segment - we will not be at the Farmer’s market on Wednesdays, but rather you can find our veg & flowers through our subscriptions, 🔗 in bioooo.

Hill Ave farm is seeded! 💪

This is our 3rd season on this yard and the homeowners are going to be xeriscaping the West half, while we tend to some potatoes, carrots, beets, chard, filler flowers, and lettuce on the other half.

All that’s left to do is plant our lettuce plugs in 1-2 weeks, and pull up the cloth once things germinate.

Last year we did this for the first time and loved it. Flowers add colour, variety, and pollinator habitat to our farms, and delivering the bouquets each week was a highlight for us and our customers 🧡

The garlic is coming along nicely!

Soon we will companion plant strawflower and statice for a dried flower garden 🌸and we have a new patch on the other side of the yard that we filled with potatoes 🥔to help break up the ground.
