These guys participated in the RKOC shows this weekend. Great success by most. Kenji-First time in the ring at 8 mths old, WDx2 ,BOW,Best puppy in grp, for 4 pts total. Plus he completed his PCD in obedience. Luna WB,BOW,BOS for a 3 pt win, Khloe, Best puppy in Grp. Kenna , Best puppy in Breed. Summer First in class X2. Carbie played in the rally ring, and completed her Rally Advanced title .We all learned things about our dogs to improve on, and had a great time doing it. Thank-you to our juniors , Ashlin and Ashley, who helped with showing. And thank-you RKOC!

Starting on August 1, all dogs entering the U.S. (including those that left the U.S. and are returning, and regardless of the country they are coming from) must be:
• healthy upon arrival
• at least 6 months of age
• microchipped
• accompanied by a CDC Dog Import Form receipt and required vaccination and veterinary documents.

Additional requirements may apply depending on where the dog has been in the last 6 months and whether or not the dog was vaccinated in the United States.

We had some fun at the Wascana Scent trials on the weekend. I had 4 dogs entered, and all earned titles. Khloe at 8 mths. titled in Instinct and Novice. Keno got her master exterior title. Kinsey earned her interior Master and SD Master titles. Carbie Titled in Master Containers Master Int, and Master Exterior for her SDM title. Other Carolot pups: Milo-Instinct, Kenji -Instinct. Luna- Novice, Kona-Novice. and Finlay Excellent AND Masters titles!

WHAT COLOURS DO DOGS SEE?
Contrary to popular belief, dogs are not colour blind.

A dog’s visual world is certainly not as vibrantly colourful as ours, but they do see a range of yellow, grey and blue shades and have better night and peripheral vision than we do.

Colour is interpreted and discerned by nerve cells in the eyes. The retina has two main types of cells called rods, which detect light levels and motion and cones which differentiate colour.

A human’s eyes have three types of cones which can identify combinations of red, blue, and green.

Dogs have only two types of cones that are only able to discern shades of blue, yellow and grey – this perception of colour is called dichromatic vision.

An ophthalmology professor at the University of Washington discovered that dogs could see blues and yellows but not reds and greens. This information would have been confirmed by anatomical investigation of a dog’s eye.

It would make more sense if manufacturers of dog toys would take a dog’s colour spectrum into account when producing dog toys.

Toys are usually made to visually appeal to people, not dogs.

Shades of yellow, grey or blue are far more appealing to your dog than a bright shade of red or another colour.
