Oftentimes when booking clients I’ll ask if there are any health or behavioural issues that we need to be made aware of. Sometimes a client feels a little offended when asked, but that knowledge is very important for us to have before starting any grooming. We don’t ask with the intent to turn the dog away, we ask so we are able to set aside extra time to help create a different experience for them. It allows us to keep ourselves safe and it gives us the opportunity to work with the dog without the same time constraints as a regular client. There are many reasons for why a dog requires extra time and a little extra care, so being transparent when booking helps us to walk in to the appointment feeling confident and with a plan specific to your dog’s special needs.
When we haven’t been given all the proper information we do often have to turn dogs away, reschedule dogs or send them home with less than ideal grooms. These things take time to do safely, animals are unpredictable and move quickly, accidents happen in the blink of an eye when we aren’t prepared. So we will always send a dog home if we think they might hurt themselves or us.
So when booking please always mention anything specific to health and behaviour, we work with all types and ages, especially having worked with rescues for so many years! We’ve seen it all and don’t judge. We always say that we can work through most anything as long as the family is willing to work with us the entire way!
