Educate yourself on the signs of arthritis.
Contrary to what many people believe, our dog and cats often will NOT cry / wince and whine to show their pain.

Their signs are more subtle. Learn them.

Acute pain has a purpose.
➡️ it tells our body to stop what you are doing right now. It is a protective mechanism.

But: That does NOT mean we should leave acute pain untreated!

Why not?
➡️ because pain sucks and is painful. Pretty obvious 🤷‍♀️

➡️ because it can progress to too much inflammation, too much scarring, too much compensation in the body

➡️ because it leads to chronic 😠 pain

Chronic pain has NO purpose.

September is Pain Awareness Month.

There is no one better than us to teach you about:

➡️ Pain: the different types of pain.
Do you know when to use heat? Or ice for pain? Why the difference?

➡️ Living in pain sucks, but what does it do to the rest of the body?
There are negative effects elsewhere when there is chronic pain.

➡️ Is all pain bad? Well…. not really. There is a bodily reason for pain…. Sometimes.

Today is ❤️Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day, observed annually on August 28th. It is a special day dedicated to honoring the lives of our beloved pets who have passed away, offering a chance to reflect on the profound impact they had in our lives.

Thinking of all our friends 🐾 whom we have had the privilege to know and be part of their journey ❤️.

Imagine if everything you did in your home, you did on slippery surface, like ice. 🧊

Makes walking, laying down, getting up from resting, and even standing to eat a difficult task.
Tile, laminate, wood and vinyl flooring are common in everyday homes. They provide little to no traction for your dog. Watch your dog closely- they are always slipping even a little bit.

Am I telling you to bring back the carpet?
Nope. I surely am not interested in recarpeting my house.

But, I am telling you that you can make small changes that will make a huge difference for your dog.

If your dog or cat ever needed exercise, strengthening, stretching, swimming, trotting…. the list could go on and on…
then you’ll know how who this gal is!

She deserves a huge shoutout 🙌 , somehow she will find a way to work with every single rehab patient we have. Let’s face it, some pups would rather eat cheez whiz and run around than exercise 😏 but somehow she’ll get them doing the reps with ease!
She literally celebrates 🐾their wins, 🐾their milestones and
🐾their achievements, all with enthusiasm 😁 every single day.

Taylor has been with us for 2️⃣ years 🎉 and we are looking forward to many more years! You are an essential part of our VMC team and we thank you for that!! I know many others 🐶🐾🐱thank you as well!!

It’s true- she really does love seeing each and every patient!

Thanks Emma for all your hard work, willingness to learn, friendly smile, and genuine caring heart for our VMC family. Happy VMC-versary! It’s great to work with you every day!!

Now that we all know the benefits of having your dog wear a life jacket while swimming, there are a few other considerations to know.

‼️It’s not One Size Fits All! 🚫

Dog bodies come in very different shapes, lengths and sizes. So we understand it can be very tricky figuring out what type or size is best.

One dog may have a skinny chest with small front limbs but a verrry long back…..
and the next dog could have stove pipes for front legs 💪 and a short back…..

We get it! Sometimes the fit may not be perfect, but just be aware of the tips and knowing them could make for a slightly better fit in the end. That’s what we want, right?

👍 A great resource for different types of jackets, fits and other things to consider are all listed

It’s a common question 🙋‍♀️:
Does my dog really have to wear a life jacket? They know how to swim.

Yes, dogs do know how to swim. ‼️BUT, regardless of their good swimming abilities, they can benefit from wearing one.

➡️ Less fatigue: your dog will tire and fatigue quicker without wearing one. The vest works to support their chest, allowing buoyancy to lift them up and takes off significant body weight by doing so. So, they can then swim longer distances!

➡️ Better technique: the vest will enhance a straighter, more neutral spine ( less neck extension) with better head position.
: increased limb motion, in particular joint extension. This means less “ paddling” and more long, efficient strokes.

The summer ☀️ is not over yet. Go enjoy your lake time, pool time and everything else in between!!

We started treating Gus when he was just a wee little guy because of severe trauma he endured prior to coming into rescue care.
With the amazing care his forever parents provide him, along with maintenance rehab treatments over the past 10 years, he has been able to live an amazing, mobile life.

Better lives being lived with better mobility and comfort.

July is not over yet and neither are the anniversaries! 🥳

We first met Hunter as a technologist student when she completed her practicum with us 2.5 years ago.
We liked her so much, and she liked us too 😉! So much in fact that she joined our clinic and has become an important part of the technologist team, particularly within surgery where her heart ❤️ and interest is.
Fast forward 2 years and now we are celebrating her anniversary with us!

Congratulations 👏 on the past 2️⃣years and we are looking forward to many many more VMC-versaries!

Hello friends that head south to the US with their dogs! 🐶
There have been changes to the requirements of travel. Please read and inform yourself of what you will be responsible for when it’s time to 🧳 travel!

‼️On July 22, 2024, Minister of Health, the Honourable Mark Holland, confirmed in a statement that the United States has agreed to a nine-month grace period while Canada and the U.S. find a workable, permanent solution so Canadians and Americans can travel with their dogs with minimal interruptions.

Most of the proposed requirements for dogs being imported into the U.S. from Canada as of August 1 have been dropped in lieu of the owner completing an online form prior to crossing the border. The form will be valid for multiple entries for six months from issue date of the receipt.

In addition to the owner providing a receipt for the CDC Dog Import Form at the border, the dog must appear healthy, be at least six months of age, and have a microchip that can be read by a universal scanner.

We are not finished yet celebrating 🙌 our important ladies!!!

Happy 6️⃣ years Tanya!
With us from the start, Tanya has always put so much care and attention into every client she deals with. And she does this every single day.

From managing inventory (and believe me when I say that as a rehab integrative clinic that also performs orthopedic surgeries, there is ALOT to ordering and managing all of our product partners), to putting on her RVT hat and performing tech duties and responsibilities, Tanya does it all.

And we can all agree that even on the busiest, chaotic and craziest 🤪 days, you can still see her smiling 🙂.
Seriously, we can promise you you that we have never seen her not smile on a given day.

Thank you for those smiles. Thank you for your work ethic and your commitment. Thank you for being you!
Happy VMC-versary!

July is full of VMC anniversary shout-outs 👏.
And we have some more very special ones to give some love 💕 to.

Why, you may wonder? 🤔
Because 6 long years ago, when this clinic was all but a dream, Cherise was here from the beginning.

Whether assisting with rehab appointments & exercise, utilizing her carpentry skills by putting together many many cabinets and shelves, greeting and helping every client that walked through the door, Cherise is there doing a great job every single day.

Her role within the clinic has morphed over the years to now also include managing and maintenance of all our OrthoPets orthotics & prosthetics brace patients. Add also being busy with HR and daily clinic operations, and you can clearly see what a busy and important role she has in our clinic!!

Thank you 😊 for so many things!!! Happy VMC-versary!!

It’s been 5 years 🎉 with Kabrina on our team!

I know many of you ( and your pets) whom have had the opportunity to work directly with Kabrina in exercise therapy and rehab strengthening can all agree on a few things:

1️⃣ she is always smiling 🙂 and so encouraging towards every single patient. She’s a really good 📣 cheerleader!

2️⃣ she is always ready to give advice and direction to the rehab parents. This is helpful beyond words! For every rehab or healing question, she has an answer… or at least promises to find one!

3️⃣ she’s pretty darn good at getting those doggo patients to exercise and strengthen, even when some days they just don’t want to! Ultimate motivator extraordinaire!

Thanks for being you Kabrina. Happy VMC-versary!

Our patients come in all sizes. Some are ginormous and some are wee little and some are in between. (This sounds like Goldilocks and the 3 dogs, I mean bears 🐻)

Over the past couple years, one wee little patient took a great big place in our hearts. Corki may have been small, but her heart and soul was big and mighty. We helped her through many health issues and together with her momma’s constant care and watchful eye , she lived many more months.
Months that were filled with happy tail wags, excited Chihuahua barks and warm snuggles.

Thank you 😊 to Corki’s momma for creating this photo collection for us. Your thoughtfulness is so appreciated!

Waiting and watching so patiently. What a good girl you are 🐾Harlow💕!
