A special post for a special boy. Tucker is my little bestie when he comes in for his groom. He loves his snuggles, his warm bath and his coconut facial the most but he will always leave me in the dust the minute his human comes back through the door.

Being in a rural area sometimes leaves us unaware of some things that can be available to us and benefit us.

One of these things I have learned a large portion of our community is unaware of is handstripping. This is a grooming procedure utilized on coarse and wire-coated dogs.

The benefits of handstripping instead of clipping are numerous!
-When the dead hair is removed it makes room for new growth.
-It helps bring out the deeper and natural colours of your dog's coat.
-It reduces the risk of several (but not all) skin irritations that wire-coated dogs are more prone to.
-It removes the fine/soft hair that tangles easily and causes matting.
-It removes the fine/soft hair that holds onto odors.
-It requires less maintenance which means longer times between grooms.
-It is a great alternative for dogs who are sensitive to loud noises such as clippers because it is a silent service.
-It preserves the characteristics of the breed's coat and leaves a more natural looking groom.

Yes! We do offer handstripping at The Wizard of Pawz so please feel free to ask any questions you have and if we are already clipping your wire-coated dog, it's never too late to change!

There are other groomers in town who offer this service as well so never be afraid to ask what's best for your canine companion.
