Randy, a six-year-old ginger cat, was found by his people hanging by one leg from the Christmas tree. He had apparently been climbing among the branches and became tangled up in the wiring of the lights. Randy’s leg was so severely injured that it required amputation.

“He wasn’t meowing or alerting anybody,” said Dave. “He was pretty much suspended from it. I think he was going through the tree, playing with the little ornaments.”

While Randy is likely to make a full recovery after the amputation, the experience has been traumatic.

“My wife and kid are devastated,” said Dave. “I just wish I could go back in time.”

The family brought Randy to the RAPS Animal Hospital, where doctors determined that the leg had to be removed.

Veterinarians and those who work with animals know that animals are incredibly resilient and three-legged cats and dogs get along just fine. Randy’s prognosis after recovery from the surgery is for a great life with just three limbs.

Randy’s injury comes at the end of a difficult year for the family.

“It’s been a hard financial year for us,” said Dave, crediting the RAPS Animal Hospital with making a bad situation more bearable. “The help we’ve been receiving is really immense. I really appreciate everybody here.”

Want to make a lasting impression and save the lives of animals? Get a tattoo – with part of the cost helping RAPS save and improve the lives of animals!

The artists at Opal and Ocean Tattoo are having a FLASH sale on Saturday, December 21 from 10 AM until late. Artists have different tattoos to choose from (see pics below) and the artists have all agreed to contribute a large part of their fees to RAPS! Plus… we’ll have adoptable kitties on site to meet potential new families. Walk-ins only! Tell ’em RAPS sent you!

Watch him grow! We're pretty sure Angela won't be able to lift Bear at his next appointment! Bear is a a Bernese / St. Bernard mix. He's pictured here at his puppy vaccination appointments at 8, 12 & 16 weeks. What a loveable guy!

We thank Bear's pawrents for choosing RAPS and keeping this gentle giant on schedule for his vaccines and puppy wellness!

The Hospital is CLOSED today - Sunday, December 15. We are still without power due to a downed tree in the area.

BC Hydro is expected to restore power today at some point and we hope to be open on Monday, December 16.

Staff will contact today's scheduled clients to reschedule appointments. Thank you for your patience.
