Breeder of Golden Doodles

Golden Doodles are a “designer breed” consisting of a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. The mix of these two breeds produces a dog that is generally low shedding (and often doesn’t shed at all), with little to no allergens making them a desirable breed for those who suffer with allergies to dogs.

In addition, the personalities of the two breeds combines to make a loyal, highly intelligent, family-loving pet. Many have found Golden Doodles to be the perfect dog for their family with young children.

How are Golden Doodles different from Labradoodles? Labradoodles are a cross between a Labrador retriever and a Poodle. Labradoodles are as different from Golden Doodles as Labs are to Goldens. Labradoodles will tend to be higher in energy and often have a more “stringy” or “wirey” feel to their fur, whereas Golden doodles will be incredibly loyal and playful, but won’t require quite as much exercise as Labradoodles. Golden doodles will have a slightly softer coat than Labradoodles.

Will Golden Doodles need grooming? Yes. Because of the Poodle element in the breed, golden doodles have “hair” not “fur”. Fur sheds. Hair grows. And grows. ... and grows. You will likely need your Golden Doodle groomed 3 or 4 times a year.

How big will they grow? Gourley Golden Doodles have parents that are a Golden Retriever and a Standard Poodle. In previous litters, some of our doodles have tipped the scale at 100 lbs and on the other end of the scale, our smallest doodle (that we are aware of) only grew to about 45 lbs. Both of these dogs are full siblings. On average, females grew to the 65 lb range and males to 75lbs.

In 2015, we retired our first “mom”, Chelsea, having given us 21 doodles and another 10 that arrived from a “play date” that I was unaware of in Alberta (lol). We adopted a Standard Poodle (Penny) of 11 months of age, and in 2018 she was bred to a beautiful Golden Retriever in the London, Ontario area. In April 2018, Penny gave birth to 9 adorable and healthy puppies. She has been an incredible mother, better in fact, than Chelsea was. We are so pleased with her care and attention to her puppies. We look forward to another litter each year for hopefully the next two years from Penny.

It has never been, nor ever will be, my intention to breed the life out of my dogs. They were both adopted for their breeding ability, but first and foremost, they are well-loved members of our family. For that reason, our litters are born in our home and grow until their adoption in our home. We do not keep them in a separate kennel or barn outside our home. To me, they are not livestock. I fall in love with each of my puppies and care about them as though I would keep them forever.

I welcome all questions and comments from potential and former customers. I absolutely love updates from families that have adopted one of our puppies, whether it’s a good update or with the sad news of a puppy passing.
