When a dog can’t handle life
When I ask Toffee to just chill with me he cannot cope. The rules of the game are simple just hang out with me and chill … he cannot go in front of me (he guards) or behind me (avoidance) or lean on me (using me as a crutch) … he needs to work through the anxiety … it has to peak in order to drop … I’ll post the video of what happens when you try and offer food (or pets) when he is in this state. He cannot always be distracted - he won’t learn to cope. I also worked him mentally prior to this chill exercise. #dogtrainer #leashyourdog #dogs #training #pomeraniansofinstagram
Let dogs be dogs 💜 My dogs work hard for me; I want them to be able to enjoy life. It is my responsibility to have their backs and make sure I don’t put them in situations they can’t and shouldn’t be put in. 🥰
Working a Dappers
Did some training with Dappers this afternoon. She loves to work but is also a sensitive soul. I don’t reprimand her “mistakes” too much when we do stuff like this, instead if she makes the effort I reward it (ex - in video she places herself in a sit next to me instead of on the place board). I can fine tune as we go. Training this way also takes the seriousness out of it … training should be fun. Mistakes are how we learn. How you manage a mistake tells the dog a lot about you. Do they trust you enough to be willing to try … even if they mess up? This also builds her confidence and allows her to enjoy the “game” we are playing. This also strengthens that bond between her and I. #leashyourdog #training #dogs #dogtrainer
Are you sick of not enjoying your walks with your doggos? Message me, I can help! 🥰
I have been wanting to walk my four younger dogs together while being hands free for quite some time. 💐
However life and such kept making it too easy to make excuses. 🌸
Today I made it happen. 2kms, hands free with my adorbs little pack of mismatched doggos 😂
We will need a bit of refinement and fine tuning but darn am I ever proud and the dogs loved the walk! 💕
In this video you’ll see me using different tools with my dogs. Lilah and Snowball have Herm Sprenger 2.25mm prong collars with Katie’s Buckles (seriously love these!), Dappy is rocking a slip lead converted into a halti and Winston Douglas is using a slip lead in its regular form.
I train the dog in front of me always 💜
This dog went from pulling like crazy to walking next to me within an hour.
Enzo is a very anxious dog that has a colourful past. While it’s easy to get caught up with the story of the dog, I always take the approach of “now you have a good owner and you can just be a dog”.
Often we want to love these dogs better but that is actually the worst thing you can do. It is much better to love the dog and introduce boundaries, structure and take the pressure off the dog (the dog feeling like it needs to handle all situations).
This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to working with Enzo but also a huge part of his training.
I am so excited to see how he progresses!
Don’t mind my shorts 😂
Different dog … different tools … I train the dog in front of me always. 💜
