So I was hoping to not have to write this, but the time has come….Steele canine crew has decided to take a sabbatical leave. I’m hopeful this will be a temporary means to bring me back to where I need to be as the leader of this “pack” but time will tell 🙂

It’s been a rough few years personally and professionally, and to be honest, this thick skin is a little worn lately. As those who know me are aware, I am a helper and empathic. Sometimes to a fault. While I have been fighting it for a while now, the time has come to admit that I need to give myself a break. I have to admit that I am tired. I have a full time job outside of running SCF that has been busy and draining, 2 amazing children that need mom on her game, 3 stunning and incredible dogs that are in stages of senior to puppyhood that require attention and clarity, and a husband that puts up with allllllll of this PLUS me!! Yes, he’s a saint lol.

I will not be holding classes, drop ins or privates during this time. However, I do plan to continue to work on, build and update the website that I’ve been trying to create for a while now. I invite you all to join as a site member to stay up to date with our journey and to use the amazing resources that I love to share with you!
In the meantime, be kind, share what you can, and have fun! Life is too short for the craziness that we deal with on a regular basis! We all have one thing in common on this site, and that is the love, respect, and joy that we want for our homes, including our dogs.

Happy Thanksgiving to each client, friend, team member and everyone in between this year! Our crew is taking the time to spend with friends & family, celebrate every blessing we’ve been given, and of course, EAT!

There will not be drop ins on Monday (we’ll still be eating turkey!!) so watch for the update next week on what exciting theme we’ll play with next!!

here! I practiced my Settle command with Mom yesterday at Dr Emily’s! She makes my back end feel Amazzziiiinnggg! Mom says I act like an orangutan and musta put something outta whack!

See mom’s foot on my leash? When she tells me it’s time to lay down, but then puts her foot beside me, it reminds me that she’s gonna start blabbing and we’re gonna be here a while! It’s not tight or anything, it just shows me the difference between her asking me to lay down and wait for to ask me something else, and when she asks me to settle in for some chilling time! Otherwise, I might get bored waiting for her to ask me something and start “orangutan-big” again lol.

Tomorrow evening's Drop In session announcement!

Note the location on the trail that we will meet at! It is to the left side when exiting the Gunningsville bridge, across the street from Country Kids Daycare and Riverview Muffler. You will see the Service Shed in a dirt parking area. We will be walking through the Marsh rather than along the playground areas :)

DROP IN CLASS: MONDAY JULY 4 @ 6:30 PM
Location: PATRICIA PARK (Cleveland St), Riverview
Cost: $10 per team
THEME: CONFIDENCE SCAVENGER HUNT

Confidence in yourself leads to appropriate confidence in your dog! Through fun activities, we will show off your skills, your pups skills, and a wee bit of competition to keep it interesting!!

Please bring a minimum 6 ft leash and well as maximum 15 ft. Your dog should be wearing a training collar for maximum efficiency (ie. Martingale collar, prong, pre approved harness) We will be doing activities requiring short leash handling as well as allowing the dogs a bit of freedom/choice in others. As always, please do not allow your dogs to socialize, play with, or focus on other dogs during classes.

This set up is also great for those simply socializing as it is a controlled environment with lots of distractions to play 🙂

Huge shout out to Holy Whale Beer Hall and Garden for letting a cute little group of dogs come into their hall last minute in the rain on Monday evening!! We worked on building the steps to teach a mannerly approach to people they encounter on walks or adventures. This little pup, who is only 5 months old, has taken my advice and knows how to hit Mom’s reward button easily!!

Manners don’t happen automatically, nor is there an easy button or guarantee. We took an hour together as a group and built this behaviour from the absolute bottom up in a fun way to help the dogs make quick association! Once the basics are known, you can shape it as wanted….. but it is so much easier to shape up than try to remove a behaviour you don’t want!!!

LET'S TRY THIS AGAIN! It's calling for some showers around the time of training, however given how hot out it will be all afternoon, and that it is calling for less than 1 mm, we are going to chance it, and work in the rain if necessary. Same as I stated a few weeks ago, we live in the heat, and we live in the rain. Unless there is a weather alert or sudden downpour, we will work the pups! Patricia Park has a small covered area if needed, pavement and grass to use, therefore we will roll with it!

REMEMBER: This is a session of PEOPLE greeting skills, NOT DOG TO DOG meeting skills. Please do not allow your dogs to approach or focus on dogs they do not know :)

WINTER SESSIONS NOW!!!

Covid says here we goooooo lol

As we wait for the next few days to pass with this lockdown, I'm over here setting up what I can to help you all however possible with our doggy buddies during every twist and turn this pandemic has been giving us! It has meant giving Steele Canine a full go over, which is not yet complete by any means, but a vision board has been started LOL Please note that as of February 1, 2022, there have been some price adjustments, however there were also changes to allow for packages and options for everyone! I would love to help you to find the one that best suits you! There will be in person, multi person, and online options, as well as several locations and times to choose from. All are COVID precautions are of utmost forefront in all planning as well <3
