On Friday January 19th, Dr. Francis Arsenault, Dr. Christine Roussel and Dr. Penny McLaughlin were invited to be guest speakers at the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association's 2023 Symposium that was hosted by the Atlantic Veterinary College in Charlottetown, PEI.

With the theme of the symposium being "Perseverance in Veterinary Medicine", our hospital was able to present about the Magic of Emergency Medicine and share insight into all that goes into working in a veterinary emergency hospital.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended the symposium, as well as the Students of the CVMA and Atlantic Veterinary College - AVC for both hosting the event and inviting us to speak!

We are delighted to introduce you all to our newest hero, Alfredo! 🐱

Similar to humans, dogs and cats also have specific blood types. As an Emergency Hospital, having access to blood donors is essential to helping patients survive certain surgeries, treatments, illnesses and injuries. In cats, we search for Blood Donors with blood types, A, B, or AB.

During a patients recent visit to our hospital, they were in need of blood in order to recover from their injuries. We were very fortunate that Alfredo had the same blood type as the patient in need and after a successful crossmatch test he was able to become a blood donor and save a patients life!

(Crossmatch Test: A test to ensure that the patients' antibodies would not react to Alfredo's antigens)

Alfredo's sibling Ziggy is also a Blood Donor and here they are snuggling after a long day of saving lives!

Even the smallest "kid-friendly" sparklers are dangerous for pets. Your dog or cat can be burned by them and be startled by the noise they make.

As curious creatures, pet are also likely to eat any unattended fireworks. It's best to keep pets away when you plan to light up fireworks.

Many "human" foods are toxic to dogs, cats and other pets. Chocolate, raisins, grapes, nuts, cooked bones, corn, onions and xylitol are just some of these dangerous ingredients.

Keep these foods far away from your pets and kindly remind your guests not to share any of their food with your pets, no matter how much they beg!

Pet Photos with Santa – December 8th, 2022!

We are very excited to share that after a 2 year Covid hiatus we will be hosting our annual Pet Photos with Santa on Thursday December 8th from 6-8pm at our hospital, located at 550 Pine Glen Road in Riverview, NB.

We invite all the pets in our community and surrounding areas to join us for a fun filled photo session, where owners and their children can also join in the photo!

Photos are a minimum donation of $10.
